Hunting for a place to stay near Huntingdon? Get along to Glebe Farm Caravan Park, an adults-only two-acre rural site on a working farm in the cracking Cambridgeshire countryside, a couple of miles from Huntingdon and St Ives. Settle in here and you’ll be surrounded by serene cereal fields – the farm’s speciality is growing gluten-free porridge oats. Take a walk on the trails around the park to see where your grub is grown and meet friendly farm horse Sorrel; look under your feet and see if you can spot evidence of the remains of two World War II planes (a Wellington Bomber and a Mosquito) lurking beneath the surface. If you fancy a longer walk, there are plenty of country footpaths around the site; site owner Rebecca’s happy to dole out advice, including pointing you on your way for the two-mile trot to the Crown Inn, a trad pub that serves up tasty meals. There's also a good choice of pubs, restaurants and cafés in Huntingdon, St Ives and in the local villages. Barbecued crocodile for dinner instead? A farm shop a few miles away specialises in unusual choices for your DIY meals, alongside a more traditional range of cheeses, deli produce and meats, and you’re welcome to light up a barbie back at base. As the folks here mainly focus on their farming activities, they’ve kept the facilities to a minimum, just installing a toilet/shower block and setting up a free wifi connection.

Från föreståndaren: Sorry if you thought the campsite was basic. We offer an honesty box shop with local produce including home made porridge, granolas and dairy free milks and the neighbouring farm's eggs as the local shop is not within walking distance. There are also free books and novels to read with a picnic bench to sit on. There is a laundry unit and two toilet and shower blocks, washing up sinks and facilities to empty toilet cassettes. Sadly it was a very wet 3 days which can make it challenging to keep campers happy. Cambridgeshire is quite flat and with arable farmland which our campsite is on a farm hence the name Glebe Farm. We don't have rolling hills like the Cotswolds or Devon with sheep and lambs. We offer a large two acre field with a beautiful horse chestnut tree in the middle which is currently flowering. There are lots of greenery, hedges and flower tubs. We have made our campsite as picturesque as we can.

I don't think we will be returning here.

Tyckte om: Only ones on the upper field, loads of space and relatively quiet. Staff were helpful.

Tyckte inte om: Ground very wet and uneven, grass had been cut recently and cuttings were left on top, consequently we kept walking it into caravan. All facilities, water, toilets, shower block and chemical toilet disposal were quite a way away.

Från föreståndaren: We showed Gary and his partner the choice of 20 or so different pitches over two fields. We have pitches much nearer the campsite toilet block. Gary and his partner chose the pitch a long way away from the toilet block and we did comment on this but they said they were fine where they were. We cannot control the rain and the last 6 months winter going into Spring have been very wet and challenging. There is a small amount of grass area over the two fields that has struggled to dry out and we have been challenged to get the lawnmower to cut it regularly ... the other 90% of the area has been cut regularly and is short and 'cuttings' free. It is a shame that the campers could not have used this areas.

I’d definitely stay here again !!

Tyckte om: What a great find! Glebe Farm is a well run, efficient and friendly site! Rebecca was awesome, so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble! Rural setting, quiet, the small village literally 3-4 minutes walk away. Plenty of dog walks to do, ornithology, they even make their own oat milk and muesli. The site is organised with everything you’d expect these days, inc WiFi, Highly recommended!

Tyckte om: Close to amenities by car or an enjoyable walk to Broughton. Really clean and well maintained facilities. Fire pits available onsite and Rebecca is super nice and helpful upon arrival.

Tyckte om: Lovely quiet site. Enjoyable two night stay. Rebecca was friendly and helpful and showed me the site facilities and the lots of information around the site of local attractions. Clean toilet and shower block. Enjoyed the 7 mile walk that is shown on the information board. Campsite wifi worked no problem. Recommend the Oats from the farm which they sell from the little hut.

Have this gate/house on your righthand side and continue on the B1090 for 800 metres. Look out for the 'Glebe Farm Gluten Free' large white banners on the right. When at the black gate (yellow top rail), ring Rebecca using the number in your booking form.

A couple of miles away is the working 18th-century watermill Houghton Mill and Waterclose Meadows. Once you’ve seen the mill in action, take a canoe trip along the Great Ouse river, or head out for a country walk or cycle ride – you can walk from here to St Ives or Huntingdon, or cycle along safe paths all the way to Cambridge. For a bit more outdoor action, there’s sailing, canoeing and an eight-mile bike trail at Grafham Water (20 minutes’ drive), or fishing at Earith Lakes Fisheries (15 minutes). For alfresco animal antics, head to Hamerton Zoo Park (20 minutes) to explore on foot or ride the little road train. History buffs may like to take a trip to the Cromwell Museum, 10 minutes away in Huntingdon, or a wander around Wimpole Hall (40 minutes away). Ely cathedral is about 35 minutes away by car, and it’ll take you 45 minutes or so to join the clever folks in Cambridge to tour the colleges or punt your way along the River Cam.
