Hoping to do some stargazing after dark? When you stay at Poppy Fields Glamping in Staffordshire, you can do exactly that on clear nights without stirring from your bed, because accommodation is in a (stylish, spacious) bell tent with a see-through stargazer roof. All you need to do is lay back and fall asleep as the galaxies swirl above your head. Inside the tent – which sleeps up to four – all is luxurious and comfy: namely a king-size bed adorned with high thread-count linens, an array of cosy soft furnishings and a daybed that converts into two full-sized single beds. On days when the weather is not at its best, you can chill in the seating area with a good book. Sole-use facilities are steps away from the bell tent in lush gardens, and are kitted out with fluffy towels and complimentary green toiletries for your convenience. Outside in the private garden is a seating area for sundowners or listening to birdsong as you spark up a barbecue. Not so keen on alfresco cooking? Stroll to the pubs in Abbots Bromley (less than five minutes’ walk), where the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin used to stop over on his thieving expeditions in the early 18th century. The village has restaurants and cafés too, as well as a couple of shops for replenishing supplies, and playgrounds for the kids.

Tyckte om: My partner and I went away for 3 nights here for my birthday and it was incredible, clean and well thought out facilities, gorgeous tent and set up, the location is lovely and homely with some great assets in the local area, the local shop, the cheese locker, and the Infinitii Indian restaurant were great and within walking distance. Natalie and Ross left us a little booklet of reccomendations and that was super helpful. The bed was super warm and comfortable, with plenty of spare blankets in case we needed them. Natalie and Ross were the most fabulous hosts, super friendly and charming and left us to enjoy the peace of the tallulah belle tent, while being super quick to help with any queries or questions. The facilties are wonderful, a great shower and bathroom set-up, kitchen with all needed utensils and an added bonus of a nespresso machine. We even were left a bottle of bubbly and some biscuits from the local area which was a lovely surprise, alongside the usual milk,coffee,sugar,tea. There is also a firepit which we happily spent the nights around and a BBQ for those who might want to cook. I cannot say enough nice things about this stay, I would 100% reccomend to anyone who wanted a bit of peace, luxury and privacy away from it all. Thank you so much for having us!

Thrill-seeking families can head for the climbing ropes at Go Ape Cannock (20 minutes’ drive), or spend the day on extreme coasters at Alton Towers (half an hour). There are adventure playground and toddler rides at Drayton Manor Resort (45 minutes), and on rainy days, families might like to take ski lessons at the covered SnowDome in Tamworth (40 minutes). Get out on the water in dinghies at Blithfield Sailing Club (five minutes) and Whitmoor Lakes (25 minutes), or take the kids for a wild-swimming taster from the beach by Essex Bridge in Colwich (15 minutes). Alternatively, get back on to dry land and follow the long-distance Staffordshire Way (five minutes) or footpaths through the Peak District National Park (40 minutes). Historians have rich pickings in this corner of Staffordshire too; you can walk around the remains of ancient bathhouses at Wall Roman Site (half an hour) or wander the wild gardens at Calke Abbey (45 minutes). Fans of stately homes can tour the Georgian mansion and decorative-arts museums at Shugborough Estate (15 minutes), or see historic toys displayed in the Children’s Country House at Sudbury (20 minutes).
