Peak District hike followed by a well-earned pint? Splendid. All of this followed by a short toddle of a couple of minutes to your bed? Even more splendid. Such is the situation at The Devonshire Arms, where pitches have been set up just behind the 16th-century village inn in Peak Forest. Footpaths lead directly from this site to the Pennine Bridleway for walks and bike rides, with the likes of Mam Tor, Speedwell Cavern and Blue John Cavern all within striking distance. There’s bike hire nearby too if you’re not able to bring your own wheels along. This is a handy spot from which to explore Derbyshire by car too – it’s just off the A623 so there’s speedy enough access to places like Buxton (15 minutes’ drive) and Bakewell (20 minutes), to places like Chatsworth House or to the more remote corners of the Peak District National Park. And at the end of the day? It’s back to the pub, where freshly cooked meals can be washed down with well-kept real ales in the cosy bar or out in the beer garden before you stroll back to your pitch. The pub’s dog friendly and open from Thursday to Sunday; on other days, maybe journey into Chapel-en-le-Frith (10 minutes’ drive) for supermarket supplies or takeaways. This is a small site with simple facilities, but guests can use the wifi, and the toilets and wash basins in the pub are accessible 24 hours a day.

Tyckte om Lovely pitch, very friendly and welcoming staff . We didn’t try the pizza but the food we had was lovely especially the home made chips ! The surprise extra was the caravan which is adequate for an extra toilet and shower & somewhere to chill for an hour if the weather is bad . ( there are also toilets and shower facilities in the pub available) plenty of walks nearby and a short drive into castleton . All in all a lovely 2 days spent with beautiful views . Thank you .

Tyckte om Great hosts, cant do enough for you. Very friendly, warm and welcoming. Perfect location to explore the peak district. Lovely little honesty shop selling everything you need and pizza oven stand. Really great price for a tent pitch.

Tyckte inte om Just a suggestion but building a small shower/toilet block next to the shop would be nice. The caravan seems to take up alot of space and all you really need is the toilet and shower. You could then get another pitch on the grass.

Tyckte om Nice wee site in a pub garden. Pitch was large and flat. Unfortunately the toilet block (run down old static home) was I let down. Pub seemed nice and busy, sadly over the course of the afternoon/evening I got charged three different amounts for the same two drinks. The most annoying thing was the quality of the pizza, got to be ranked as one of the worst we have had. Just can't get my head round the fact that they have obviously spent lots on a very good looking pizza trailer, and serve a spectacular poor product. On a positive note the outdoor site shop did stock a huge amount of goods. Fingers crossed this is not the norm and it's only our middle of the road review. 😳

Tyckte om Back of the pub with four pitches 😀 static on site for shower and toilet. Coffee/tea facilities with trust box. Lovely little community shop with is self service. Fresh bread, eggs, and other essentials.

Tyckte om So friendly and so many things available for such a small venue!

The pizza hut is a great addition and the honesty shop is excellent. I've seen honesty boxes before but this is next level!

I had a steak on the first night and it was exceptional, one of the best cooked steaks I've had.

The drinks selection was fair for the size of the venue, with something in all categories to satisfy all tastes.

Board games available to help yourself to and almost everybody in the beer garden was taking advantage of this which made for a warm atmosphere...

Keen to give your boots or bike a workout? You’ve come to the right spot – from the pub it’s an easy jaunt to Mam Tor (10 minutes’ drive), the Monsal Trail (15 minutes) or Stanage Edge (25 minutes). You might like to stop in for a dip at the open-air pool in Hathersage (20 minutes) at the end too. There are many fine views to see around here – and some equally great sights to be seen below ground if you head to Poole’s Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes) or up to Castleton (10 minutes) to visit Speedwell Cavern and Blue John Cavern. Back up on the surface, get a hit of history at Eyam (10 minutes), the village that sealed itself off from the world during the Bubonic Plague of 1665. Away from all the rural attractions, take some town time at the opera house, gallery and museum in Buxton (15 minutes) or fuelling up at the pudding shops of Bakewell (20 minutes). The excellent Chatsworth House (25 minutes) should be on the schedule too, for the farm shop and playground as well as the house and gardens.
