We have just arrived back from. 3 night stay (should have been 4 but we swerved the first night due to concerns of high winds).

We have 2 children aged 11 and 8 and they absolutely loved our whole stay. The stream is like a magnet for children and organic play and it was wonderful to watch them wading in and out, using the rope swing and zip line across the river and generally just being children!

We had a non electric pitch and we were able to pick a pitch in front of the stream which was ideal for us. Firepits are allowed and you are provided with a reflective board to avoid burning the grass.

The site itself was lively over the bank holiday weekend with children playing late into the night. We didn't mind this at all but I considered that couples without children may not find it quite so appealing.

Overall it's a treasure of a campsite and our children didn't want to leave today.

It's worth noting that some of the pitches are located across the stream and to access these by car you must drive across the stream. No problem for most but my insignia estate is low and didn't make the crossing, grounding on the bank before we entered the stream. We could've taken our things across the footbridge in a trailer but this seemed an extra hassle so we pitched elsewhere.

Not so much a dislike as it didn't bother us a great deal but the toilets, whilst clean, we're quite cramped with just 2 working cubicles in the ladies and one shower which was opened to the toilet block with just a shower curtain for privacy.

It appears that some renovation work was being completed on the womens toilet block and possibly a new shower being built. They did also open up the guesthouse which has a small shower room and guests were able to use this. I took my daughter up here to shower as it allowed more space for me to assist her in drying/changing afterwards. Given the space available in the ladies toilets, this would have been difficult.

Despite the above. The pros outweighed this to be honest and it wouldn't deter us from returning.

The stream and trees make for a pretty backdrop. The kids had a lovely time on rope swings, stepping stones and trying to catch fish in the stream.

Unfortunately this campsite doesn’t live up to expectations, whilst there are lovely features, don’t believe all the pictures, there is rubbish, debris and building materials laying everywhere, it’s very uneven and the hessian path is split and broken in places making it easy to trip on, especially in the dark. It is also very close to the busy motorway and there is an airport with planes coming over very low at regular intervals. We were hoping for a rural, quiet, relaxing camping break - as described. When we arrived it was relatively quiet - however, it still look over half an hour to find somewhere decent to pitch. The electric wires are on huge extensions leads and draped all across the grass in every direction, there was even hook up wires under the bridge through the stream - and you just have to find an empty plug. By the Saturday the campsite had been over filled, people were trying to pitch on grass verges and having to use trees etc for guy ropes as there was no space to pin them. Children were running wild and tripping over guy ropes and screaming in the Tipi that has been put in the middle of the site. The 10pm quiet curfew was ignored, there was a strong smell of weed, there were teenagers flying around the site on electric scooters, loud music, and shouting. The toilet and shower facilities are nowhere near up to scratch for the price we paid - almost £200 for 4 nights as a family of 6. When we arrived there was 1 toilet for women and a set of toilets the other side of camp - within a day these had been destroyed, flooded a section of the site and put out of order. When the toilet block finally opened and then there was 1 working shower and 2 toilets for at least 25 women and girls - these definitely weren’t cleaned daily (for the amount of people they probably should have been cleaned 3/4 times a day) The men’s toilets were also dirty, urine on the floor, toilet seats were broken. Lots of the toys and cars etc left out for the kids were broken, missing wheels etc, just not safe to play with, We looked but couldn’t find the games room as advertised, the cave bar was open but we went in 3 times and there was no staff and lights switched off. Because the campsite was so full we were advised to leave the car the other side of camp - however there wasn’t enough parking spaces for the amount of tents, some had been covered in wet sandy dirt by kids and alarms kept going off causing more disruption. The washing up area had no hot water - and was one sink for the whole site, there was also no waste disposal area there, so everything was being taken over and slung in a massive pile by the entrance. Overall - this campsite has so much potential, but the facilities need serious attention, tents need to be less crammed in and more care needs to be taken to maintain it.

Amazing location, beautiful surroundings, lots to do on site for the kids, fire pits for rent, cave bar, what more do you need? Very busy but it was the thursday before the bank holiday weekend in the school holidays so what do you expect, plus it shows this place clearly has a good reputation (and for good reason)

Owner was very rude, camp site was filled with rubbish, showers and toilets didn't work and you are constantly accused of stealing/taking something you had not paid for. For example, we hired a firepit for the length of our stay and was asked 3 times if we have paid for that, when did we get etc.

Lovely small site with great views of the stream. Small playground for younger kids and rope swings over the river kept the little ones entertained.

Facilities were limited, one toilet and one shower for women and weren’t in the best condition though a new block was due to be completed shortly after our stay.

The river

This has for 3 years been our favourite site not anymore. Arrived to find the wedding tent a permanent feature in the middle of the camp ground. No allocated pitches was a free for all and having to find your own electric split and move it. The female toilet block was being renovated no pre warning so could use the male one shower! But nothing on the males door warning them of risk or the shower in the guest house which I attempted no hot water and no room at all.
With the amount of people on site I don't know how it's even passable.
We left a day early as more and more people arrived pitching where ever they wished which blocked the two usable toilets. One had no seat and the lights didn't work at night.
Staff were nowhere to be seen no pitch checks etc so people smoking weed not being picked up on. I am beyond dissapointed and won't be returning. The staff come across as not caring or being bothered at all and the state of the site is an absolute reflection of attitude. It's such a shame.

Loved how relaxed it felt on camp, the kids really enjoyed the play areas as wells swings, zip lines and stepping stones over the river! For our first time camping this place was awesome, not too big but just the right size to let our children explore independently whilst under a watchful eye. Freedom to choose where you pitch your tent is a bonus. There is food on site as well as a bar where I enjoyed a well earned pint once the tent was up. Staff were super helpful and friendly on arrival and were available if we had any questions or issues, they also gave us really useful information on local shops and other amenities. My dog wasn’t a massive fan of the free roaming chickens but the kids absolutely loved them. The site was very well maintained and overall we had an amazing time.

Not disliked as such but could use a few extra bins around the site, and a few of the children’s equipment such as swings, zip lines and trampoline could use a bit of TLC.

Amazing site, kids loved it. Had everything we needed and a stream that the children loved. The owners even helped with putting the tent up with me being clueless.

Everyone of us said we loved it and we will be back next month.

Our Second year staying at the old vicarage our children love the freedom to play in the stream which is crystal clear and the park.
Pitch sizes are generous.
You can sit back and watch the children be children. We also tried out the pizzas and chips which is new this year food was nice.
Lovely Weekend Enjoyed by all.

Toilet Facilities. Women's was closed for repair.
The coach house accommodation was opened for use of toilet and shower.
However cleaning wasn’t regular enough for the amount of people on site.
quite often I had to clean before I or my child used the loo and the shower I saw facilities cleaned once in the 2 days I was on site.
The shower which I got lucky with timing and managed to use wasn’t great either freezing cold or suddenly very hot. That’s the only reason for not giving more stars I only stayed two nights so I can cope with not having a perfect shower but the cleanliness really needs improving.
