One of the handy things about meeting the owners on site is that they can give you all sorts of tips on places to visit nearby – and in this case that includes a fine list of local pubs, restaurants and food shops, so have a chat when you arrive to find out where you should be eating nearby or picking up supplies for back at base. In between those meals, you might like to boost your outdoor time trying to hook some carp at The Islands Fishery (five minutes’ walk) or a round at Bullpits Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive). The farm is just on the edge of Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for walks, or you could head out for strolls around Stourhead (10 minutes), Old Wardour Castle (25 minutes) and Montacute House (35 minutes). Other options? Maybe a city day in Salisbury (40 minutes) or Bath (45 minutes), a safari day at Longleat (20 minutes) or a trip to the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis (an hour).
