Ever been to one of those parks which have been run by the same family for generations and those who have been welcoming guests for decades? If not, it's time you did… such as to Pensagillas Park, near Cornwall’s St Austell, which has been run by the Kent family for six generations to provide a pristine place for pitching up. Pensagillas has had guests staying here since 1970; it’s all looked after and laid out to be tidy and attractive, with trees, hedging, shrubs and a tarmac roadway connecting the grass meadows. The pitches are in a five-acre field at the end of a private drive, with Cornish countryside views all around. And bring your rod: there’s an old mill with stream on site for contemplative casting off (and/or picnics), along with a two and a half acre coarse fishing lake at the bottom of a steep hill to land roach, tench, golden rudd and carp of up to 28lb (note that fishing is for an additional fee, paid for at reception). Pensagillas Park is a working farm, and you can buy the site's own free-range pork, sausages, chops and eggs in the on-site shop. During high season, there’s a takeaway and a cosy bar serving beer and cider, with more tipples and food available in the local village a couple of miles away.

Понравилось It was my first ever camping trip alone so I was a little nervous and didn't know what to expect. The people on site were so friendly, they have a little shop (with some very limited fishing tackle/bait) but it was perfect for someone who underpacked fishing wise! They asked if I wanted to be around people or more alone on the lake field do I picked that for the fishing. The bar and toilets/showers were not a far distance and all kept clean! I think it is an absolute bargain for what you pay, will definitely be back again!

Понравилось Spacious pitches & beautifully kept grounds. Great bar & takeaway and and an amazing meadow our dogs LOVED.

Не понравилось Would have appreciated a shelf in the shower to keep wash bag on… but that’s literally the only thing I could list here.

Понравилось We really enjoyed our stay here, limited facilities but had everything we needed. We were placed near the bottom near the lake and it was beautiful. There were 2 x blocks for toilets / showers which were nice and clean, 1 near reception and one closer to the end of the field near a lovely lake and dog walking field. The shop has all essentials, a little takeaway / bar open in the evenings. The friendliness of the staff when we arrived was welcoming and the help throughout our stay was great. The beauty of the wildlife at the site in general was really lovely. Nice and serene as it's located in the middle of some country roads, no signal but free wifi provided so can stay connected through wifi calling and socials. Not far from St Austell or Truro. Brilliant value for money.

Понравилось Loved the the scenery, the large pitches, the relaxed atmosphere and brilliant customer service.

Не понравилось No sanitary bin in the single toilet by the lakeside pitches or bin in the washing up area also in that block.

We had a fantastic stay at Pensagillas Park and would definitely recommend it. The facilities were excellent — a well-deserved 10/10 from us. Everything was clean, well maintained and there was plenty available, including lots of pot-washing areas, washing machines, toilets and showers, so you never felt like you were waiting around.

There are also some brilliant extras on site that really make a difference. The mini shop, gin bar and takeaway were lovely additions, and it was great to see local farm produce available too. It gives the site a real community feel and means you can pick up a few essentials or treat yourself without having to head off site.

The site itself is beautiful, with quaint lakeside walks, gorgeous plants and flowers, and bird boxes dotted around, making it a lovely place to wander around and enjoy the surroundings. The pitches were a really good size, and we particularly liked that there are some private pitches available too. We had an electric pitch, which was very handy and made our stay even more comfortable.

The Wi-Fi connection was also great, which was a real bonus. There is little to no mobile phone signal on site, but the Wi-Fi worked really well, so it wasn’t an issue for us.

The location is fantastic for exploring Cornwall. It’s close to the Eden Project, with places such as Bodmin and the beautiful fishing village of Charlestown easily accessible for days out.

Overall, a lovely campsite with excellent facilities, great little extras, spacious pitches, a beautiful setting and a really peaceful atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Highly recommended!

Pensagillas Park has tourist information on site if you’re stuck for info on what to do, but any problem you're likely to have will be trying to narrow your list down… Pensagillas is near busy St Austell and one of the closest parks to one of Cornwall’s biggest attractions, the mighty Lost Gardens of Heligan a mile and a half away. Leave the car behind and reach Heligan by the Pentewan Valley Trail, which links St Austell to the gardens and to Pentewan via a scenic valley; you can hire bikes on the trail or take to the water at Pentewan, which has a fine beach and two sailing clubs with boats for hire (there’s also a St Austell Ales pub here for real ale adorers). Mountain bikers and the energetic should beetle towards the bike routes of Bodmin Moor, taking a pitstop at Jamaica Inn, an almost essential stop in these parts. The inn, the setting of Daphne du Maurier’s smuggling novel of the same name, has a museum telling the tales of Cornish smugglers throughout the centuries, and apparently several ghosts too…
