York should certainly be on the schedule for a stay here – easy access to the main road means that it’s only a 20-minute drive to York's Grimston Bar Park and Ride for a straightforward way to visit the city centre. Once you’re there, wander along the old walls, visit the minster, take a boat ride or see the trains at the National Railway Museum. Heading in the other direction, a 45-minute drive through the Wolds gets you to Yorkshire’s east coast for days on the beach in Bridlington, Filey or Scarborough, or a bit of birdwatching at RSPB Bempton Cliffs. Other outings nearby might take you along the David Hockney Trail from Warter (20 minutes’ drive), to the abandoned medieval village of Wharram Percy (25 minutes) or to visit grand buildings like Sledmere House (20 minutes), Castle Howard (25 minutes) or Burton Agnes Hall (35 minutes).
