Beaches in one direction, mountains in the other… if you like a bit of variety in your holiday scenery, you should certainly be pleased with the Galicia location of Camping As Nevedas. This family-run campsite is in a rural spot that’s just under four kilometres from the coast and 15 minutes’ drive from Carballo. Naturally, this sort of location means easy access to all manner of outdoor activities, whether you fancy taking your bike out on forest trails, hiking along coast paths, going horse riding (in the woods or on the beach), trying your luck with your fishing rods or donning scuba tanks to go out diving. Prefer to take it easy? There are several gorgeous beaches close by – including the stretches at Razo, Baldaio and Caión. (If you’re not familiar with this area, by the way, don’t let the name ‘Costa da Morte’ put you off – it gained its deathly name from the number of shipwrecks that happened along its rocky length in the past but it’s perfectly welcoming to visitors…) Being so close to the coast, there’s a good supply of seafood in the area – and guests can sample it easily enough at the on-site restaurant, where you’re also welcome to settle in for a cool drink at the bar. Other facilities on site include a swimming pool, a paddling pool, a play area and a games room – along with lots of handy amenities such as a launderette, washing-up area and toilet/shower block. As this is a rural spot well removed from urban areas you can expect some fabulous stargazing on clear nights.

Gostou: Beautiful location, clean facilities with dependable supply of hot water, toilet roll, paper towels. Nice bar with a good menu, clean swimming pools and quiet campsite at night (no parties etc).

Não gostou: Dogs barking in the night. Not all staff were always friendly.

Gostou: Camping pulito e tenuto molto bene dai proprietari. Un gioiellino. Una bella piscina anche se un po’ piccina. Posto tranquillo. Proprietari molto gentili: ci hanno aiutato quando abbiamo perso il portafoglio.

Gostou: We booked for 4 nights but ended up staying for 11! After driving from UK pulling our caravan, we needed a new clutch in the car. We had no idea who to speak to with our nonexistent Dpanish but luckily Herbie and Anita who run As Nevedas are English/Spanish and speak perfect English. They helped us organise a mechanic, let us stay as long as we needed, and made us feel incredibly welcome as well. The campsite is spotlessly clean, well run and friendly and we were made to feel like part of the family during our extended stay. The pitches are large and private, the bathrooms are always clean, the cafe bar is the perfect place to relax and have a beer or some food. I would highly recommend As Nevedas to anyone in the area.

Gostou: In a nice area. Facilities were clean and showers were warm.

Não gostou: On arrival we were greeted by a man we assume is the owner. He spoke very good English and was very friendly at first, he walked with me to the pitches and gave us the choice of 2. The entrance to the pitches is quite narrow and difficult to manoeuvre a camper van so we picked the one in the middle that looked easiest to get back out of. We had only booked one night as we were passing through on the way to Portugal. We booked campsites all over Spain and Portugal for peace of mind as we were travelling with our two young boys (1) and (4). The owner then asked us to meet back at reception to formally check in. We went straight there and he then very casually told us that our booking was incorrect and we owed more. He tried to say we had put in the wrong amount of guests or their ages were incorrect but I had that all on the booking info and could prove it was correct. He then said that we had been given the winter prices even though it was now summer. We tried to argue that it was what was quoted but he wasn’t budging. We then tried to look for a different site as what he was asking for was significantly more than what we had been quoted. While looking he then said he would take the children off of the price to make it slightly less (still a lot more that what we were quoted) but as it was getting late and our boys were tired we decided to pay it anyway. The next morning we showered and left to our next stop. We didn’t have any trouble like this in any other campsite for the 3 weeks we have been traveling so it’s strange to us that pitch up happened to get just this sites prices so wrong!? Seems a little like a scam to me. Get people in with lower prices and then make them pay more on arrival! Be careful if you decide to book here.

Gostou: Where to start .. fantastic hosts and site can't recommend enough. The site has everything you need and Herbie and Anita and daughter cannot do enough to make your stay a great one. English speaking so no issues for us Brits who struggle with only the basic Spanish. Good size pitches and we have a 7.9 metre MH and no problem getting in the pitch. Two pools, a bar with ice cold Estrella and fresh coffee served in the morning and you can order fresh baked goods each day if required. Fantastic views from pitches down the hills to the sea. Great place for surfers (not us) but renowned coastline. Our first campsite this trip that we picked at random and we are so glad we did. Booked a night but stayed longer and would definitely go back if we pass that way again. Lovely clean shower and toilets and all services available if you need them. Free WIFI. We were lucky we booked onto this site as we had a nightmare with our motorhome as the exhaust decided to drop off (brackets broke) 20 mins from the site. With a 'make do' mend we limped there and Herbie was fantastic. With his local knowledge he rang a friend who has a garage, booked us in, provided us with a better and safer temp fix to get us to the garage and in 2 days we where ready to resume our trip. Going above and beyond ...we know from experience if we had rang the RAC/AA we would have been stranded for a lot longer and it would have ended up costing us a fortune. We couldn't have been stranded at a better place and once we where sorted we stayed longer as we loved it. Can't praise this place enough and say how grateful we are for finding it. I would go back without question and would recommend to anyone who is visiting the area. I don't do reviews but for this site there was no way I wasn't doing one. Thank you Herbie and Anita for everything.

Atrações locais

Beach hunters should be pretty pleased with what they’ll find in these surroundings… The nearest beach is Caión (five minutes’ drive), and it’s a lovely place with fine, soft sand and clear waters for days of sunbathing and swimming. Baldaio, a little further along the coast, is another long sandy stretch that’s suitable for families, while Razo (15 minutes) is the place to go for surfing and surf lessons. If you’d like to get stuck into outdoor activities, maybe stroll next door to the horse riding school or ask on site for advice on the best places for fishing, hiking, cycling or diving. City life and seaside come together in one place over in A Coruña (25 minutes), where you can climb to the top of the Torre de Hércules (the world’s oldest working lighthouse), see marine life at Aquarium Finisterrae and see all sorts of intriguing exhibits at Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia – and also find some great places to eat.
