Once you’ve tramped along the trails on site, expand your horizons further into the lovely Limousin countryside by seeking out one of the marked hiking trails or mountain bike trails nearby. Need somewhere to cool off? There are plenty of supervised swimming spots around local lakes and rivers, along with areas for fishing, kayaking and sailing. You may have picked a proper open-air experience for your own stay, but if you’d like a glance at a rather fancier way of life, sashay off to one of the area’s châteaux: Villemonteix, Jouillat and Sainte-Feyre are all within a half-hour drive. If you’d like to meet some bigger beasts, a good place to start is at The Wolves of Chabrières, just outside Guéret (half an hour's drive). While you’re over that way, have a go at finding your way out of the giant maze, check out the town’s art and archaeology museum or head to Étang de Courtille’s lake beach for a freshwater swim.
