Want to feel like you’re getting a secluded and peaceful getaway without having to give up being close to other people? At Dartmoor Halfway Inn, a family-friendly site in the grounds of a pub-restaurant 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Newton Abbot in Devon, South West England, you get the best of both worlds. Two minutes from the edge of Dartmoor National Park, The Halfway Inn is well placed for exploration – you can walk, cycle, ride, canoe or climb your way around the park, travel from scenic village to scenic village, or learn about the history of the area. The site and pub are dog friendly too, so ramblers should feel free to bring their canine companions along for the walk. On site, kick back by the river Lemon, which passes just behind the campgrounds, or relax in the open green field – kids who aren’t quite ready to sit still for the evening can burn off any residual energy in the on-site playground. When the whole family is ready for dinner, stroll over to the Halfway Inn for a slap-up meal, then knock back a few beers or a couple of glasses of wine – or juice for the kids – and toddle back to where you’re spending the night less than 200 metres away. If you’d prefer a change of scenery, there are plenty of other restaurants in Newton Abbot and within 10 minutes’ drive of Halfway Inn.

Gostou Easy to get to, very central location, pub is nice, staff made a great check-in and smooth as possible, friendly and polite and great service all round.

Não gostou Not a negative review but shower rooms could do with a squeegee as floors get soaking and night mare to get changed in.
Could do with several speed bumps on the gravel track around the pitches and some speed signs.

Gostou Quiet site, friendly staff and pub on site. Only a short drive to lots of places to visit. Pitch was a great size, and flat. Loved that they were segregated by hedges too.

Gostou Beautifully located, manicured and very pleasant camping park. There is a well kept, facilities building. We only stayed one night, while at the festival in e nearby town but we enjoyed the dinner at the pub.

Gostou Pitch was clean and tidy. Site was quiet enough to enjoy birdsong even though there is a main road close by.. food in the pub was extremely good and i would definitely recommend the steak pie..Staff were ery friendly and helpful.

Não gostou No bus stops close by, or safe enough to walk to.
Bit of a sewer mell at top of site, but probably due to the hot dry weather. Spasmodic wi fi on the site, perfect for us but may be a problem for others..

Gostou Nice site with pub which does really good food. Be aware though that there are only a few toilets and showers so if the site is busy you could be queuing. Wi-Fi now available on the site.

Gostou It’s a lovely spot and we love the hedges giving privacy between each unit. The pub was great too, a slightly limited menu, but that meant everything was very well executed.

Não gostou The toilet and shower block smelt horrible the whole weekend, the stink extends down the whole park if the wind is the wrong direction, please fix this, other guests commented to us how awful this was, especially the glampers. There is only one toilet for each gender and that really isn’t enough when you’re that busy.
The fully serviced pitches need putting right, ourselves and our caravan neighbours were unable to use the grey water drainage as the grate is higher by about 30cm than ground level. Showers etc just won’t drain at that height!!

Pub was nice. Food tasty.

Não gostou Very basic facilities. 1 ladies toilet with 2 showers. Not a very nice smell in the toilet block.
Pub didn’t have much food choice sadly.

Atrações locais

You can barely turn a corner in this part of Devon without coming face to face with a stately manor – Bradley, Compton Castle, Greenway, Castle Drogo, Coleton Fishacre, Cockington Court, Torre Abbey and Dartington Hall are all with 45 minutes’ drive, and a visit to the spectacular 16-sided A la Ronde, 35 minutes away, is highly recommended. Tipplers might like to make the trip to Buckfast Abbey outside Buckfastleigh (10 minutes), though you won’t be able to do tours or tastings at the factory. If the Abbey doesn’t get you steaming, head to the South Devon Railway and climb aboard the vintage train, or abandon alcohol-related puns altogether and head to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary. Fawlty Towers fans will be keen to learn that Torquay is less than 30 minutes away. Although you can no longer visit the real-life hotel behind the comedy, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: follow the Agatha Christie Mile to get a glimpse of some of the spots that inspired the murder mystery maven, dive below the Devon coast in the prehistoric Kents Cavern, or play giant at Babbacombe Model Village.
