To set out on an idle walk among the fruit and nut orchard or to follow a bridlepath into the medieval landscapes of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Walkers are certainly spoilt for choice at Sheherezade Fruit Farm in the East Sussex countryside. This welcoming family-friendly farm site has a couple of fields: a bottom field with portable toilets and a top field with the site's main facilities including a fully-fitted kitchen with a table and chairs, as well as two fully equipped shower rooms. You may fancy unwinding with an on-site lakeside picnic packed with farm-made jams and chutneys or sipping on fresh fruit juices before setting off into the surrounding woodlands and lanes towards local fishing lakes and country villages. If you weren’t a foodie before you arrived, you’ll surely be one upon your departure. Order fresh eggs from the site and for any other supplies, head to the bigger supermarkets in Hailsham and Heathfield, which are within 15 minutes’ drive of the site. If you still have room in your stomach, there’s a pub within 15 minutes’ walk, with a pub garden for dogs (welcome on site on a lead) and cosy beamed innards where you can nurse a pint. Back on site, the resident pigs, sheep and hens await with a cheery welcome home. Once you've greeted them, keep your food fresh in the communal fridge and make use of the other facilities on site, including a launderette and toilets. The site is within 35 minutes’ drive of Eastbourne and Hastings, and with Newhaven port 40 minutes away for links to France via ferry.

Gostou This is a beautiful campsite, lovingly kept and a real oasis of calm. We pitched by the lake which was fantastic. We had a lovely night's stay, great facilities, wonderful eggs and home made jam. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much Carol for taking such care to give us a great stay.

Gostou Great communal facilities that are well-kept, including a full indoor kitchen and shower facilities. The site itself is beautiful and very private, with the main lakeside camping area far away from the main house so it feels like camping out rather that slepingt in someones yard! Carol is friendly and helpful.

Gostou Absolutely beautiful surroundings, so peaceful, exactly what we were looking for. We had fresh eggs every morning from the farms chickens, a lovely dinner in the Horse & Groom just 5 mins up the road and freshly picked plums courtesy of our delightful host Carol, such nice helpful lady. We will definitely be returning!

Gostou Serenity! Peaceful, absolute perfection when you need an escape from all the hustle and bustle.
Parked by the lake with sheep and ducks as our only neighbours.
Only wish we had stayed for more nights.
Portaloo available in the bottom field and the facilities available in the top field were immaculate, 2 x brand new show rooms, full size kitchen and dining table.
Would highly recommend and we will visit again.

Gostou We had a wonderful stay with the lovely carol, she was a fantastic host.
The campsite down by the lake was idyllic, watching the geese fly in every evening, sheep grazing nearby was perfect for a curious toddler
Facilities were clean and everything we needed and lovely hot showers! only thing that would make this site even better would be a tap at the bottom field for water access closer to our camp. I’m sure we’ll be back!

Gostou We were the only people staying on the site and the weather was lovely. The pitch by the pond was beautiful.

Não gostou The facilities were very disappointing. Although there were toilets at the homestead end of the site they were very far from the best camping spot.
The “portaloos ” at the bottom by the nice pond were in a very poor state. One had two portapotties inside which weren’t very clean. The second was in a disgusting state which we had been warned about. There was no water available at the pond site only at the main facilities again a long walk.
We feel these points spoil what could be a very nice.

Do gestor: I somehow knew that Christine would not be giving a good review but sadly, yet again, with people who give me a bad
review, she had clearly not read the comprehensive email and attachments that I sent out beforehand. How can anyone say the facilities were disappointing when 9.9 campers say they are the best they have seen on a campsite. Does anyone else have a fully fitted kitchen with hot and cold running water, a fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, gas cooker, kettle and toaster all for use by everyone? Answers on a postcard. Thanks Christine, I am not sad to see that you won't be coming again.

Gostou Truly breathtaking surroundings, surrounded by nature. Both mornings we stayed, we were greeted by birdsong and sheep amidst the mist over the field - quite a beautiful sight to behold! We met pigs, chickens, plenty of sheep, the guard geese and Rupert the golden retriever. Walks around the lake followed by a lakeside beer as the sun is setting is unbeatable. A pub serving food is a 15 minute walk away, next door to a village shop selling local produce. The communal facilities were clean and even included an oven and a toaster. Make sure you pick up one of Carol’s homemade jams too!

Tread carefully over the grounds where Normans landed many years ago with a visit to Battle Abbey (20 minutes’ drive). Continue onto the battlefield itself or head into the town of Battle (20 minutes), where the memory of the Battle of Hastings remains. For more trips into times gone by, the well-preserved bricks and moats of Herstmonceux Castle (15 minutes) make a good contrast to the timeworn turrets of Pevensey Castle (20 minutes). Gaze up to the moon and stars… and discover a world of domes and telescopes at The Observatory Science Centre (15 minutes), where kids can gawp over the different planets. More wonders await, this time from the animal world, at the family-friendly themed rides at Drusillas Park (half an hour) or the barns and farm animals of Middle Farm (25 minutes). Cuddle up to more animals of the furry kind at Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare (25 minutes). Ready for some more hands-on action? Try the treetop courses at Go Ape Bedgebury (half an hour) or get into watersports at Bewl Water (35 minutes).
