If a trip to the Lake District National Park for you means plenty of peace, space and lovely natural views, this is the place for you. A couple of miles from Ambleside, Skelwith Fold Caravan Park is set within 130 acres of ancient woodland, providing a top-notch location for a stay in this wonderful part of the world. This location is on the site of a former country house – and while that building is long gone, a few handy replacements have sprung up, including a reception building with a shop and several bathroom blocks with all mod cons (think underfloor heating and hot showers as well as accessible facilities and spacious family rooms). There’s also a building housing a well-equipped launderette (with several washing machines and tumble dryers, plus a drying room) and a library so you’ll have something to read while you wait for your clothes. That launderette may well come in useful, as this is a place that lends itself to getting just a bit mucky – for starters, there’s a fab four-acre open space for the kids to run about and play games, plus a large play area with a zipwire, scramble nets and loads of other play kit. There are also woodland trails running through the grounds, leading to the tarn and nature hide, with red squirrels, woodpeckers and deer to spot along the way. This is a large site, but it’s not a place that ever feels crowded, as pitches have been cleverly tucked away in tree-lined glades around the park, giving each area a cosy woodland atmosphere – just the thing for your peaceful Lake District break.

Gostou Beautiful site. Our motorhome water pump had packed up so we had to rely on the facilities, toilet/shower/washing up etc and the first night we parked near the playground but the toilet and shower weren’t great there. The 3 showers in the other block were much better.
We liked the peace and quiet, the beautifully kept grounds and the friendly staff and people we met there. The playgroup was lovely. Our kids loved the zip wire. The stars at night were amazing! The site was clean and tidy. Would have been 10/10 if the shower by the playground was better.

Não gostou The single shower by the playground was awful but thankfully we found the better block the 2nd night. We had to decide whether we were close to the playground or close to the much better facilities.

Gostou Loved this site 5* From the friendly greeting to the advice on walks and fells it was fantastic. Excellent walks straight from the site as we didn't move our campervan in the 3 days we were there.
Very clean site with Very well maintained heated toilets and showers checked several times daily very clean. There's a laundry and drying room after a long walk to sort your clothes out and boots. There's even a library.There play areas for the kids although we didn't see these as no kids in tow.
Staff very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area.
Would definitely stay here again when next in the area

Gostou The site is set in beautiful surroundings, with stunning scenery and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy everything the Lake District has to offer.

The grounds are extremely well maintained, the facilities are excellent, and the whole site feels clean, tidy and very well looked after.

Great staff who are very welcoming.

The first and not the last time visiting that is for sure!

Gostou Some things no TV reception and very poor wi-fi

Não gostou Was given a occupied to leave on the pitch when we left for the day which was left when we returned it seems to have disappeared and some one was parked on the original pitch we picked which meant we had park somewhere else which wasn't good parked until trees and it rained all night it was like a galloping horse running up and down the roof all night

As well as having top-notch facilities, Skelwith Fold Caravan Park is in a top-notch location for a Lake District break. There are lots of great walks and activities nearby, and staff are always on hand to dish out ideas and tips to help you make the best of it all. Of course you’ll want to see some lakes – perhaps starting with Tarn Hows (15 minutes' drive) before moving on to a steam boat ride on Coniston Water (20 minutes) and a tour of Rydal Water (15 minutes), taking in Rydal Cave and Rydal Mount and Gardens along the way. The big one, of course, is Windermere, just a few minutes' drive from the park and with boat trips available from Ambleside (10 minutes). Around the lake there are various attractions to stop off at, including the National Trust sites at Wray (10 minutes) and Hill Top (20 minutes). If you've got the kids, look instead to places like the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (20 minutes) and Lakeland Farm Visitor Centre (25 minutes).
