Banish washout summer worries: Pitchup.com's waterproof UK escapes for families

Jun 21 2012 Postado por Lewis Shields

Don’t let June’s washout weather put you off a UK getaway this summer. Knowing how the rain can play havoc with holiday plans, Pitchup.com has put together a round-up of some top places to stay to keep the family entertained, whatever the weather:

  • Caalm Camp is yurt camping in deepest Dorset - traditional Mongolian yurts, beautifully equipped and sleeping up to six people. Mum and Dad will love that duvets, bed linen and fluffy white towels are provided. A wood burner keeps things cosy on cooler nights and each yurt has its own private shower room within The Old Haybarn, which also houses a big farmhouse kitchen as well as a children's area. Back outside, there is a wooden play area, fire pit, picnic benches, barbecues and chickens to feed! Longleat Safari Park and Monkey World are just a short drive away, and the beautiful beaches at Bournemouth, Sandbanks and Weymouth will keep kids young and old happy. Yurts sleeping up to six people are priced from £90 per night.
  • Little Upton Boutique Belltents are located in the heart of the beautiful Cornish countryside, and offer guests roomy tents with some beautiful finishing touches, such as tea-light chandeliers. The site is ideal for outdoorsy families: the nearby lakes at Siblyback offer fantastic fishing and an extensive range of watersports; there’s top-notch horse riding, walking and biking around beautiful Bodmin Moor (and the famous Camel Trail cycle route, where you can also hire bikes, is only half an hour’s drive away); the River Tamar provides sailing, boat trips and fishing. For evening entertainment, try the Sterts open air amphitheatre. This unique venue hosts regular music, theatre and comedy productions during the summer months. Bell tents are priced from £50 per night.
  • Hendra Holilday Park, near Newquay, recently won Cornwall’s Holiday Park of the Year and the park prides itself on its huge range of activities on offer, no matter what the weather brings. There is a large indoor and outdoor pool complex, with flumes, river rapids, geysers and waterfalls, as well as a smaller pool for toddlers. The Hippo Kids’ Club takes the pressure off mum and dad as kids can enjoy treasure hunts, nature trails, karaoke, fancy dress and much more. Bars, cafés, restaurants, takeaways and a large supermarket are all available on site. Stay in your own mini lodge - Hendra camping pods sleep up to three people and are priced from £25 per night.
  • The sturdy canvas of Magical Camping’s luxury bell tents and tipis provides an ideal, cosy escape from the grey clouds and showers of the great British summer. Comfortable beds, luxury bedding, and carpeted floors are all part of this boutique offering, as well as outdoor fire-bowls, cooking equipment, utensils and anything else that is required to dish up tasty outdoor meals. The beaches of the north Norfolk Coast are only a short drive away as well as the market town of Dereham, with numerous shops and restaurants and a cinema in case the weather turns! Dinosaur Park at Lenwade is only a 10 minute drive away and a firm favourite with families. Tipis and yurts sleeping up to four people cost from £85 per night or £440 per week.
