This being the Netherlands, it’s a great place to get out on your bike. Cycle through bulb fields and past polders to take in the rural scenery, or make the half-hour trip to Stellendam to wander around the traditional fishing harbour and pick up the catch of the day for your dinner. Another bike-friendly destination is Kwade Hoek nature reserve, or you could take the 25-minute ride to the RTM Museum, which has a cracking collection of old diesel and steam locomotives. You can also take a ride on the old tram out to Brouwersdam on certain days (check ahead for dates). If going to the beach has left you itching to get out on the water, you can hire windsurf kit by the site or sign up for surf lessons at the surf school 10 minutes away by bike. There’s paddleboarding down here too, or you could cycle down to Brouwersdam, half an hour away, for kitesurfing or land yachting.
