Cocktail by the pool? On an off-grid place among ancient olive trees, a few kilometres from the beach in Tuscany's lush Maremma region, with events on site every evening for all ages? Say sì, sì and sì once more to splendid hols at a family-friendly, family-run and eco site a short drive from Grosseto province capital Follonica as well as the sands of Castiglione della Pescaia.
The family team running Camping Village Il Fontino have done so for over 20 years, managing it on a firmly eco-conscious basis that's focussed on saving energy and reducing impact on the environment.
The site is completely off grid, powered entirely by its own solar panels and provided with drinking water directly from source. The hot water in the sanitary blocks equipped with a time-delay system to avoid energy wastage; not that you'll want to crisp gently under a hot shower for too long in these sunny climes…
Camping Village Il Fontino is a couple of kilometres from the ancient town of Scarlino and within day trip distance of the UNESCO areas of Siena and San Gimignano. Whatever day out you pick, you'll need to nip back to base sharpish after exploring this spectacular region to see that night's excellent event. There's a mighty fine variety on offer from the summer entertainment programme, ranging from acrobatic performances to gigs, dances and outdoor cinema nights – and all considerately ending by 11.30 so everyone gets a full night shut-eye before another day of Italian adventuring.
Live music is at the bar every night, sports tournaments are arranged weekly, and there's a daytime programme of activities and entertainment for days when you do want to stay on site, including water aerobics, kids' games and kids' and teens' discos. Or you might prefer that cocktail by the pool, or indeed a dip in it… before a clamber out for another lazy session on the adjoining sunbeds...
A big multisports pitch is also to hand if you're up for getting active, handily illuminated at night for sporty evening shenanigans. Work up an appetite then totter your tired self along to the spacious restaurant and pizzeria for dinner, before a tipple and some live music at the bar, and an amble back to your berth refreshed for site- or Tuscany-based antics the next day.

Camping Village Il Fontino is in the province of Grosseto, in the spectacular coastal region of Maremma. It's 15 minutes' drive from here to the province capital Follonica, and about 25 minutes to the ancient seaside town of Castiglione del Pescaia, both famed for their safe waters and peaceful pine forests.
Set among the Metalliferous Hills, the nearby medieval town of Massa Marittima has lots of sightseeing options, such as mineral springs; iron, mercury, lignite and copper mines, and foundries, ironworks and olive oil mills. The town is networked by winding alleyways and dotted with monuments such as a Romanesque and Renaissance churches, fountains and piazzas.
Just under two hours away, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of San Gimignano, with its 14 ancient watchtowers and masterpieces of 14th- and 15th-century Italian art. Within an hour and a half is the medieval city of Siena, with stacks of sights centred around the spectacular Piazza del Campo.
