Wales? England? Mosey along to this Monmouthshire site for both. Hendre Farmhouse Orchard Campsite is on the border of England and Wales, within easy reach of days out of all sorts in both countries. It's no more than half an hour's drive to famed attractions in both lands: the Brecon Beacons, Chepstow, the Wye valley and Raglan Castle on the Welsh side, and the Forest of Dean, Tintern Abbey and Hereford on the English. Even closer to home, the farm is on Offa's Dyke Path for those who fancy part – or all – of its 177-mile route along the Welsh/English border; canoeing on the River Wye is within a couple of miles, and the championship course of the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club borders the site. Hendre Farmhouse Orchard is a peaceful spot overlooking meadows, rivers and hills, and with the River Trothy flowing through the farm meadows. Monmouth is 15 minutes' drive away.

Get your walking boots ready, because Hendre's setting next to the Sugar Loaf and Black Mountain ranges is among the most scenic hiking country in Wales. Recommended walks include the Three Castles, a 19-mile route linking Skenfrith, Grosmont and White castles, following hills and woods and among views of the Black Mountains, the Welsh Marches and the Forest of Dean. Also to be tackled of course is Offa's Dyke Path, on its southern Wales section around the Wye valley and the eastern side of the Brecon Beacons National Park: just follow the acorns… You could also try the Celtic Trail, on a route across Wales rather than up and down it like Offa's Dyke, and running west from Chepstow to the county of Pembrokeshire, or the 100 miles of the Beacons Way for a challenging day or two of hikes. In the Wye valley and the Vale of Usk, take the Wye Valley Walk on part of its 136-mile run from Chepstow to Rhayader via Tintern Abbey and Monmouth. For a shorter local stroll, try the Caerleon Heritage Trail, the Lower Wye Ramble or the Priory Grove Circular Trail.

Gostou It wasn't busy when we visited and therefore felt very exclusive. It is a lovely site, there is no question there, very peaceful. It's nice to see the cows on the field next door, along with a partial view of the start of the Black Mountains (Hay Bluff? I'm not sure).

Não gostou PRICE. Not good value for money. We've found this with a lot of the campsites on Pitchup in all honesty.

For example: Whitemead Forest Park costs around £35 per night. For that you get electric, swimming, jacuzzi, heated shower blocks, football/basketball court and ping pong tables. Plus you are right in the Forest, as secluded as here.

Then on the other end of the scale you have a little gem in Alstone near Winchcombe. Basically a field just like this for £7 a night.

I would have expected to pay no more than £20 a night for Hendre Farm and would expect electricity to be another fiver or so. Not £10 extra.

Obligatory warning to any cars or campers coming from the South (duel carriageway). The lane is just shy of 2 miles and very tight, even by seasoned wild camper standards. Better to come from the North (still tight) but not as long.

Gostou Absolutely loved this little campsite. The are is lovely and the little extras are very handy. In the communal washing up space there is a kettle, microwave, big fridge freezer and oil for cooking. Also has washing up bowls, liquid and scrubbers. The big kettle bbqs and picnic benches are perfect for a night by the fire. Wood is bought from the little office on site. The showers at hot and there are even electric points to charge your phones if you need but leaving at your own risk. It was quiet when we went so this was fine. Will definitely be back as accessible to the brecons and the Forest of Dean. Perfect base for MTBing 😊🤟

Gostou Very happy with our stay over the Bank Holiday weekend. Tranquil location with all the essentials. Our dog absolutely loved it too, couldn't get him out of the tent when it came to pack up. Kirsty was spot on and made sure our stay was the very best it could be. We will definitely be back again very soon.

Gostou Perfect campsite with beautiful views and quiet surroundings. Great atmosphere with nice fire pit evenings, leaves you relaxed and calm. Toilet and shower facilities adequate with accessible food cleaning utensils and fridge chilling facilities.
