Go as north as you can to the tippity-top top of Wales for a hol on the Isle of Anglesey at Bryn Goleu Caravan and Camping Site, a place where spending time on some of the nation’s best beaches is par for the course. And that’s no exaggeration… This family-run farm site on the island’s north-eastern side is 10 minutes’ drive from the postcard-pretty Trearddur Bay and 15 from the sweeping sands of Rhosneigr and Traeth Llydan. Set your sights on the seaside, then treat yourself to more views back on base – Bryn Goleu looks out over the distant peaks of Snowdonia National Park in one direction and Holyhead Mountain in the other, so you can plonk a chair down on the open grassy space and take in the top scenery. All sorts of travellers are welcome at this family-friendly site, including the four-legged variety. Let the dog scamper around the grounds or take them off on longer walks at local hiking hotspots like the cliffs around South Stack (20 minutes). Planning on making it all the way up to Anglesey via buses and trains? Perfecto: the site offers pick-up from public transport.

Gostou The site is super friendly, clean, tidy and well spaced out. Evening entertainment was really fun with lots of the guests taking part which to me meant that the place has a consistently good atmosphere. The Saturday I was there, lots of games were on to help raise money for a defib kit to be at the site, fingers crossed our little bit helped towards them getting one.
The coast is not far away with Rhosneigr and Trearddur Bay about 10mins away and similar time approximately to get to a food shop in in Penrhos, Holyhead.
I haven't put these as dislikes because they didn't bother me or amount to anything, but initially I didn't know what to make of the road noise from the A55 but you kind of don't notice it after a day there. Also thought that there may be queues for showers/WC in the mornings but there wasn't one at all while I was there. Looking forward to a return visit soon.

Gostou Loved the warm welcome from the site owners. Never far away. Club house was lovely. Pitch and site were always clean and tidy. Dog walk fab. Everything we needed was there.
A small park or some swings would be nice, but that can bring other issues...more red tape!!

Superb facilities-shower block, onsite bar, different foods vans come round on site - the owner let you know which are coming and when
Owners are amazing - incredibly friendly and very very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble

Gostou Very clean, organised and tidy site. Generous pitches with plenty of space between pitches.

Excellent toilet, shower, washing up facilities.

The dog exercise field is rare to find but extremely welcomed!

It was a camp of traditional campers where people were happy to say good morning and were happy to help each other, and pass the time of day.

Gostou Very well maintained site, good pitches for caravans and new looking bathrooms, cleaned very well.
Owners were lovely and very friendly, offered suggestions for the local area, takeaways and activities.
Plenty of drinking water taps available and an ice cream van visits the site occasionally.

Não gostou Non-electric tent camping is very close to the main A road so very noisy during the evening and even at night.

Gostou Welcoming and friendly site - both people staying and the owners. Pitches were huge and very well kept. Facilities were excellent and spotlessly clean. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

Anglesey’s got 140 miles of coastline to explore, so it’s hard whittling down the beaches you definitely need to check out. It’s worth sticking Porth Swtan – Church Bay – on the list, though, as this is a particularly pretty stretch of sand within 20 minutes’ drive. Wanting a wander? The coastal path is closer (10 minutes), so head here too for strolls with a view of the sea. Inland spots for sauntering about include the multicoloured landscape of Parys Mountain (25 mountains), an old copper mine dug up in the 18th century and then left as it is. Stop by Llynnon Mill enroute, to see Wales’ last working windmill and another worthwhile sightseeing spot, before zig-zagging back to the eastern shores and poking around the Barclodiad y Gawres cruciform passage grave, one of the most interesting Neolithic-era archaeological sites on the island (10 minutes). On your return to the park, detour up to South Stack (20 minutes) and peer at the puffins from the RSPB centre on the cliffs. Not far from here is a port where ferries leave to Ireland, so if you fancy making a very big detour to Dublin that’s also possible…
