Looking for a simple site that can be used as a base camp for summiting Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)? Consider Camping in Llanberis, which sits on the north-western fringes of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia). It has direct access to the Llanberis Path and the Snowdon Ranger Path, two routes (of varying difficulties) that lead to the summit of the tallest mountain in Wales. Suited to the outdoorsy type who doesn’t expect any luxury facilities, this is a back-to-basics spot, though there are some amenities, including a toilet block with coin-operated hot showers, a washing-up corner, a fridge, freezer and microwave, and phone-charging plugs. According to demand and the season, there's also sometimes a food van selling breakfast baps in the morning and burgers and loaded fries in the evening (all to be pre-ordered at the reception), plus craft beers. The on-site team is happy to hand over some friendly local knowledge and advice. There’s no need to book or find the car parks for Yr Wyddfa here; in addition, the Pen y Pass paths are also easily accessible by car or a Sherpa bus. Camping in Llanberis is just a 10-minute stroll from Llanberis, where there are shops, restaurants, cafés and attractions like the Llanberis Lake Railway. It’s a 25-minute walk to the Snowdon Mountain Railway station for those who don’t want to make the climb to the summit. It’s also a great base camp for those attending running events like Ultra-Trail Snowdonia and the Snowdon Marathon. The Snowdonia Slate Trail, a long-distance path stretching for 83 miles, is a 15-minute drive away.

Gostou Very busy over bank holiday which you would expect. However, trip spoilt by drunks shouting in the early hours of the morning. Not the best way to start a hike.

Gostou Location and the view were amazing.

Não gostou It was hard to believe that we had to pay £1.00 for a shower for 8 mins. For such a busy location 2 showers and 2 toilets ( apart from 2 behind the building) caused a queue and was uncomfortable. Cleaning was not up to standard. We could also use some extra bins per field.

Gostou A really beautiful location with everything you need for the perfect weekend camping trip.

There’s a small reception/shop on site offering useful essentials in case you forget anything.

I especially loved that you’re allowed to have fires by your pitch it really creates the perfect camping atmosphere

The presence of a dry room is a real boon, especially during those unpredictable weather spells, ensuring your gear stays dry and ready for your adventures.

The staff on site are friendly and approachable, always ready to assist with any queries or needs you might have, adding a welcoming touch to your stay. One of the highlights of the campsite is the food van, which offers top-notch meals that are sure to satisfy your taste buds after a day of exploring. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast or a delicious dinner, the food van has got you covered.

The facilities are what you'd need after a long day out hiking. Adding to the charm of the site are the sheep and cats that roam around, the latter often seeking shelter under the tarp during rainy weather, which adds a unique and homely feel to the experience.

Gostou On the doorstep for Snowdon summit paths, we took the Ranger path to go up and the Llamberies to come down.
There is food van at the premises which made great breakfast bab ☺️

Facilities were old and only 1 for a big camping area
I've called them many times when on the way to ask what is the latest they can wait for us as the traffic was busy and took us way longer to get there, but they didn't answer the phone, sent them an email, no reply. We made it before they closed reception but ..

If you want to balance your outdoorsy pursuit with a bit of history, head to Caernarfon (20 minutes’ drive), where a fortress built by Edward I in the late 13th century sits where the river Seiont flows into the Menai Strait. Across the Seiont is a large green area with a skatepark and a waterfront path. Lined with independent kiosks, Garth Pier in Bangor (half an hour) stretches halfway across the Menai Strait, making the island of Anglesey seem so close you could almost touch it. There are more views of Anglesey from the Roman Camp, an area of woodland and lawns at the top of a hill overlooking the city. Those who want more thrills besides summiting Yr Wyddfa should visit Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (half an hour), where they can take a vertiginous flight across the lake of a disused quarry on what is said to be the world’s fastest zipwire. If you’re brave enough to keep your eyes open, you might catch a glimpse of the Welsh coastline while you’re in mid-air.
