What a busy time can be had in the gorge little corner of Ceredigion that houses Erwbarfe Farm Caravan Park – it’s bursting with attractions in all directions, including the famed waterfalls of Devil’s Bridge Falls half a mile away, the stupendous coastline of Cardigan Bay within 12 miles, and the upland wilderness of the Cambrian Mountains and their top peak Plynlimon. Then there’s the fishing, horse riding, red kite spotting, mountain biking and mining history to plunge into too – it’s not surprising that guests have been returning to this family-run farm for over 40 years… As might be expected among all this, the views and facilities of Erwbarfe Farm will make hearts leap too… pitch up here for scenic sights in all directions, loads of room ready for play, and a peaceful park garden for picnics and nodding dreamily over a novel. Amenities are well kept and include two blocks (one with toilets and the other with toilets and showers), a launderette and water taps flowing fresh Welsh mountain water sourced above the farm. Source groceries, ice cream, Calor gas and other essentials in the site shop; other bits and bobs for sale as well as a bistro with takeaway are within a mile, and there are plenty of local pubs serving food (the park noticeboard has info on and menus of local eateries). A rich selection of restaurants is at Aberystwyth, 20 minutes’ drive away – or land your own catch with a sea fishing trip along the coast.

Gostou We really liked the location of this campsite. Just 30 mins from Aberystwyth and a short drive to Devil's Bridge waterfall. The site itself is quiet and peaceful, with views of hills all around. The toilet and shower block is very well kept, with good showers and clean toilets. The ladies had five toilet cubicles and five showers. The dishwashing area had two sinks and lovely hot water. We only stayed one night, so didn't use the games room or shop.

As a side, I definitely recommend Devil's Bridge waterfalls. If you can, get there before the attraction opens and you can pay a cheaper entrance fee by using the turnstiles. This also meant a practically empty car park, and no-one else at the falls. You need to be rather fit though, as there are lots of steps to climb! The circular walk took us 50 mins, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

Não gostou If it wasn't for the sat nav and visible caravans, we wouldn't have known we were at the right place because there is no signage. There is no sign for reception, and we were unsure where to go, so we didn't even speak to the hosts. Luckily we knew which pitch we were on, so just headed straight there. We couldn't get access to the WiFi, and rather strangely, the bins are right at the back of the site which meant either driving over there in the motor home, or walking quite some distance with our recycling and rubbish, so we just took ours away with us. All of the above were only minor niggles, and we were only here one night so it really didn't bother us at all.

Gostou Had an amazing pitch and really lovely neighbours. Our own water supply was an absolute blessing and the only thing we had to walk a short distance was to empty the toilet.

The views were exceptional and the lovely sheep was warming.

Não gostou Nothing to dislike. We were a couple with 2 dogs and it was perfect.

Gostou Pitches are immaculate and all with great views. Family who run it are lovely. Toilets and facilities all really well kept. Was nice a quiet too which we like compared to other very big and busy campsites

Não gostou Showers aren’t temperature controlled and a little wild but I’m being picky. Could have done with a freezer for ice packs and water etc but we stayed when it was 30 odd degrees and appreciate that is very rare!

Atrações locais

Fisherfolk from all over the country use Erwbarfe Farm as a base for some of the best casting off in west Wales: the nearby Rheidol and Ystwyth rivers yield salmon and trout, while rainbow and brown trout can be landed in the local lakes. If you’ve never dabbled in the art, ask the farm staff for a meet with their almost-resident fishing instructor David, who can give fly fishing lessons and advice on site, and/or pick up a free copy of the site’s Angling in the Heart of Pumlumon booklet in reception. The reception information point on site has brochures and leaflets on all the other things to see and do locally: you'd have to read rapid-ly to get through them all, but should certainly include the fab falls of Devil’s Bridge, where visitors including Will Wordsworth have flowed to for many a year. Numerous beaches including New Quay, Borth and Ynys Las (plus dunes) are within easy driving distance of Erwbarfe Farm, as is stunning Cardigan Bay 12 miles away and its award-winning beaches, walks on the Ceredigion Coast Path, smuggling the family into caves, and – with luck – spying the UK’s biggest pod of dolphins.
