Litton Lakes is a family-run Dorset lakeside site with spacious pitches and a modern shower block on a working farm in the pretty village of Litton Cheney. The area is something of a walkers’ paradise, with direct access to a network of footpaths and bridleways, and a dog-walking field just next to the site for any four-legged pals that haven’t had enough of a stretch. If you’d rather set out on two wheels you may like to note that National Cycle Route 2 passes the entrance to the site (and it’s suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities). Back at base after any such outings, guests can get some more activity in by launching their paddleboards or kayaks on the lake, taking a dip in the fresh water or simply settling down to admire the far-reaching countryside views (firepits can be hired and logs are available to buy if you need a bit of warmth to help you dry off after a dip). And if what you really need is some sustenance? The site’s own Purple Turtle Café (open Friday to Sunday) should be your first port of call, for splendid cakes accompanied by cups of tea and freshly brewed coffee by the lake. You’re also welcome to light barbecues for bigger meals, or you might like to take a stroll down to the local pub, five minutes’ walk away. This is a peaceful and family-friendly site that’s particularly attractive for those with an interest in photography as there’s some gorgeous scenery to snap nearby. It’s also in an area of very low light pollution, so stargazing should be on the schedule too if possible.

Gostou Amazing x4 days staying at Litton Lakes, great walks, friendly staff.
The lake was absolutely perfect.
The local pub the White Horse Inn did an amazing roast dinner on the Sunday.
We Will definitely be back.

Gostou Nice location with a great pub just a short walk away. Good meals at sensible prices.
Great place for youngsters learning to paddleboard, family friendly.

Não gostou New shower and toilet block, unfortunately probably cost alot to do, but badly designed with a very poor water supply. Not very well maintained or cleaned. The warden put it down to the number of people on the site.
Not a very helpful answer, more effort from the warden and staff required would be our observation, especially for £74 for 2 nights non electric pitches.

Gostou Swimming and paddleboarding in the lake was amazing. Staff were friendly. Site was clean. Cafe was nice and food was good. Showers and washing facilities were fine. Had a real nice stay

Gostou The upgrade to the ablutions was very welcome. Also Sarah was very friendly and helpful. The lake as always was lovely and the new launching areas a vast improvement making it safer and more user friendly. Much easier to get into the lake whether swimming or paddling.

Não gostou There was not always hot water and the pressure at times was very weak.

Gostou Lovely relaxed atmosphere at Litton Lakes. Is it small enough to not feel crowded but large enough to have plenty of space for pitches, dog walks, playing field, good facilities etc. A really good balance for a relaxing family camp.

The lake is the main attraction of course and the kids spent hours on it.

Nice toilet/shower/wash up facilities too.

Não gostou The cafe could stay open a little longer or open a little earlier. But not a big deal.

Gostou The set up, the lake and the beautiful views.
If all the facilities were in working order and the camp rules set out when booking were adhered to it would be near perfect. We would definitely come again.

Não gostou There is a beautiful new abultion block but unfortunately there was no hot water or any water pressure which was very disappointing. We had cold showers with dripping water. There were also taps that were running continuously.The curfew of no noise after 9:30 was not enforced and we had children running around and shouting until after midnight.

Gostou We loved the relaxed feel of the place, the cleanliness and facilities were excellent.
The lake was fabulous, great for a dip or to muck about in boats on. We will return.

Gostou The lake was very pretty. Good field, 5 mins walk to local pub .

Não gostou Unable to hire paddle board at cafe as stated on the website . This was our main reason of camping there to try this activity. So was very disappointed we couldn’t do this. When I return I will have to buy a paddle board first.

Take a 10-minute walk along to the village’s very own vineyard, Bride Valley Vineyard, for tours, tastings and a bottle or two to sip while the sun goes down. (If you’re more of a beer drinker, you’ll need to take the 15-minute drive to Palmers Brewery, which also runs excellent tours.) Time for the beach? Take your pick from the scenic offerings of West Bay and Burton Bradstock (both 15 minutes’ drive) and the 18-mile shingle stretch at Chesil Beach (half an hour), or head off to Weymouth (half an hour) to see the Sandworld sand sculptures and ogle the underwater beasts at the Sea Life Centre. Away from the coast, top days out might take you to Abbotsbury Swannery and gardens (20 minutes) or to explore the Teddy Bear Museum, Dinosaur Museum and Maiden Castle Iron Age fort in Dorchester (half an hour).
