With expansive sea views, direct access to a private sandy beach on the Blackwater Estuary and heaps of on-site facilities, Mersea Island Holiday Park has plenty to commend it – to both humans and canines. Your four-legged friends should enjoy accompanying you on long walks (or perhaps on your paddleboard?) as you explore the Essex coastline. Sea water too chilly (or choppy) for you? Weather not playing ball? No worries: the on-site indoor swimming pool has a large area with deckchairs, plus floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass roof letting in plenty of natural light so you can feel like you’re outdoors even when you’re not. The kids will probably spend most of their time in the pool, but should you be able to drag them away from the water, there is an outdoor adventure playground with swings and climbing structures, not to mention a humongous grassy area where the entire family can kick a ball around or have a game of cricket. Adults are not left behind, either, as they gather for drinks or a game of pool at the Muddy Duck Clubhouse. This is also the spot to grab a bite to eat – whether a pizza or a burger – and to catch the evening entertainment, which includes bingo and live music, as well as outdoor cinema nights from late July to the end of August. There’s a food shop on site, and more supermarkets (plus restaurants) in West Mersea (10 minutes’ drive).

Gostou Nice quiet place to stay.
Lots of green space, beach is easily accessible.
Really dog inclusive, which is lovely.
Pool was nice and quiet though we didn't use it.
The Muddy Duck had an amazing singer in for the evening.
All the staff were kind and welcoming, but Alex absolutely shines, he is genuinely so funny and absolutely amazing at his job, he is a real credit to you

Não gostou The ground was ridiculously hard to pitch a tent, definitely invest in strong pegs.
The muddy Duck could use some air con,.it's so hot in there and sadly made.people leave rather than stay for the entertainment.

Gostou staff were great, site was clean and play area really good, bingo was fun and nice and close to the beach. food was really nice

Não gostou capsite ground bent half our tent pegs which then ment tent was flooded during rain, club house was stupid hot only one litlle window to open and only ac over the bar.

Gostou Very clean and well cared for sight. Staff pleasant and helpfull. Right on the beach and plenty of access to walks and wooded areas. Realy nice indoor pool.

Não gostou Dog freindly site so if your not ok with that then it could be a problem but everyone was very well behaved and we had absolutely no issues.wifi not very good on camp site but fine a bit nearer the main areas.

Gostou Very quiet and pleasant stay. Just for a couple of nights. Sun was shining which helped but all in all great place, showers were lovely and clean. 9 out of 10 for me 💯. Will definitely be returning as £20 a night can't complain.

Gostou Facilities, view, beach & plenty of space to explore.

Não gostou How close together the pitches were, smoke from someone’s fire was drifting into our tent at 1am. Could hear other people turning over in their beds and others snoring. For the size of the field it would be better to space the pitches instead of having them crammed together in the centre of the field. Maybe locate them around the perimeter?

Gostou Lovely site with beautiful views and good facilities. Toilets and showers are basic but kept clean. The sea at Mersea is perfect for kayaking and fishing — a really nice spot for both.

My gate fob was left in a lockbox for late check-in, which was very convenient

Não gostou We stayed here last year and had a pitch closer to the edge of the field, which was much more sheltered. This time, we noticed those pitches have been removed, and the new ones in the centre are extremely exposed. It was so windy we couldn’t even get our tent up. Not sure why the layout was changed — it made things really difficult this weekend.

Gostou Beautiful place, very clean in the camping area, and very friendly caravan owners across from us. Clubhouse was nice and friendly staff. Swimming looked great although it was fully booked so we didn’t get to use it

Não gostou The shower blocks and toilets we saw being cleaned but still weren’t great. Paper towels weren’t replenished

Gostou The camp site was beautiful and the fields were very well kept and the beach is a lovely addition. The toilets were kept clean (mostly) and well stocked with hand wash and tissue when needed.

Não gostou The long grass (not accessible for public) had a lot of rubbish in it, which may have blown from the bins. And the swimming pool changing/showering facilities were dirty and full of stale water.

Gostou The site is stunning. The view is amazing! The place is small and we loved that! The adventure playground a 2 minute walk away was fantastic! The pool was so warm (a bit too warm 🤣) yea the shower block is a wooden block but the water was powerful and hot!
All the staff are so lovely and helpful. The shop on site was so reasonably priced I was really surprised. The food was great. We had such a great time.

Atrações locais

Residents at Colchester Zoo (25 minutes) include cheetahs, elephants wolves and Komodo dragons. The Australian Rainbow experience puts you right in the middle of an aviary populated by colourful lorikeets, or you can feed the giraffes or explore the Dinosaur Realm. After visiting the zoo, head into Colchester (half an hour) to see the well-preserved 11th-century castle, which now houses a museum displaying Ancient Roman mosaics, Celtic coin hoards and medieval armour. The fortress sits on the edge of Castle Park, where you can picnic on the grass by the banks of the River Colne, play miniature golf or watch a game of cricket. At Curve Water Sports (45 minutes) you can have a go at paddleboarding or wakeboarding in a calm, enclosed body of water – no waves or currents to worry about here. There’s also an inflatable adventure course with climbing structures, trampolines and slides.
