What does it take to keep guests happy? They reckon they’ve got it sorted at Happy Valley Camping, a family-friendly site on a Cheshire farm just outside Stockport. It all starts with a great semi-rural location that’s surrounded by lovely countryside but also well connected to local urban centres. Poynton and Bramhall are both five minutes’ drive away for local supermarkets, cafés and independent shops and restaurants, with Stockport 10 minutes away and the centre of Manchester about half an hour away. Turning in the other direction, it’s just a short drive to the activities of the Peak District National Park. For most of this, there’s no need to drive if you don't want to – handy Hazel Grove station is a mile away for trains to Manchester, Buxton and various points in between, and a bus stop a few minutes’ walk away has several services to choose from too. The rural surroundings mean plenty of good walks nearby – and you’ll be able to bring your dog along for a stay here too. It’s a proper farm experience here, with hay bales for the kids to clamber on, blackberry bushes to pick fruit from and a river nearby for paddling and swimming. The views are all green fields, trees and hills by day, and clear starry skies by night (weather permitting…) This is a laidback place where you can pick your own pitch and have space for your awning, gazebo, outdoor table and barbecue. There are firepits for hire and logs for sale on site, and you'll have access to simple but modern facilities including toilets and a washing station.

Gostou Friendly owners, pick your own pitch, fire pits allowed and even sell logs and hire pits out. Easy to get to. Toilets clean and also washing facilities. Dog friendly.

Não gostou No showed but I knew this on booking, would have just made it perfect.

Gostou Back to basics camping and does what is says on the tin! I used this as a cheaper alternative to a night in Manchester and it was great!

Gostou Quiet site. Easy to find and close to Stockport and Manchester. Facilities were basic but as advertised, so no complaint. Super flexible - arrive when you like, pitch where you like was the advice. The owner clearly has plans for the future to improve this site and we will be back.

Gostou Large field plenty of space quiet site. Although toilets where not clean they were OK. Light in womens toilet on timer but turns off after less then 30 seconds so take a tourch.

Não gostou Toilets where not cleaned possibly due to owners being on honeymoon. Grass could do with a cut. Found glass beer bottle and large metal in grass luckily didn't drive over them.

Gostou The view was nice and the other campers were lovely.

Não gostou The toilets were terrible. Child sized cubicles and leaking. The ground was unkempt (not mown as pictured)making it impossible to see how uneven it was. We have disabilities and left injured as not being able to see where we were walking. The lady who took our payments said they'd done it intentionally so it could be fresh mown after we left for her up coming wedding. Online said check out anytime but we were told to leave by midday and the farmer and the lady started mowing the field in a huge tractor while we were still in the field waiting to leave. She didnt come across as very nice when she finally appeared and a number of other campers made complaints about her while we were there.

Atrações locais

A good break has to involve good food, of course – and you should be able to source plenty of that in the surrounding area. One particular favourite is Stockport’s Foodie Friday, which fills the market square with food vendors and live music on the last Friday of the month. For other ways to keep it local, stroll through the surrounding Happy Valley Nature Reserve, perhaps following on to the Ladywood Valley Interest Trail. The Middlewood Way, running along a disused railway line, is a popular route for walkers and cyclists, and there are 50 acres of Capability Brown-designed parkland to explore at Poynton Park (five minutes’ drive). Bramhall Park (10 minutes) is another gorgeous parkland to wander around, with a stunning Tudor manor house at its centre. A little further afield, your outings may include places like National Trust - Lyme (15 minutes), the caves of Castleton (half an hour) and the smart spa town of Buxton (35 minutes). And of course Manchester (half an hour) is packed with things to do for all ages and tastes.
