Get set for some proper Cheshire chillout time – stays in the cosy shepherd’s hut at Golborne Caravan Park are all about relaxing and soaking up the fresh air and lovely views. This well-appointed hut is part of a small caravan site in a handy location a little way off the A41 about five miles south of Chester (making this a handy location for getting out and about for day trips). At the heart of the site is a fishing pond that attracts lots of wildlife (as well as being free for guests to use) and makes a particularly good view at sunrise or sunset, both of which are often quite colourful around here. As it’s a dark-sky area you’ll often get some spectacular stargazing by night too. Mother-and-daughter management team Karen and Natalie have made every effort to make sure the hut has everything you’ll need for a comfortable break. The double bed is made up ready for arrival, and there’s a TV and digital radio as well as a kitchenette with microwave, fridge, kettle and nifty Ninja Foodi 8-in-1 oven. Charging points, fans, plug-in heaters and a fold-down table are also provided, and the hut has an ensuite toilet and sink (with a shared toilet/shower block close by). The highlight, however, may well be the deck and outdoor space, which looks out over the lake and has Adirondack chairs and a firepit (with logs available to buy from the farm shop). For snacks and drinks to complete the picture, head to the site’s café/farm shop, which is open 9am-4pm Tuesday to Sunday with a tempting range of pies, pasties and cakes (eat in or take away) as well as essentials like milk and bread.

Gostou Loved every part of our stay the hut is truly beautiful and peaceful if your looking to escape the hustle and bustle of life this is the place to be.

Gostou A wow factor , the hut was beautiful, the pond and setting was so peaceful. The bed was so comfy, I could quite happily live there it was that perfect.

Gostou Me and my 10 year old son arrived for a “fishing trip”. It’s all he had on his mind and it didn’t disappoint. Plenty of fish (Roach / Rudd). The Hut was clean and tidy and was a nice touch to have milk, coffee and tea available, along with the multi use Ninja oven. The farm shop was well stocked and the breakfast was incredible.

Shower room was clean and had hot water (not that we needed it as it was 31° when we were there), my son had a cold shower and said it was the best shower he’d ever had!

My son caught over 100 fish and did not get bored one bit. The privacy was fantastic, it was so peaceful. The local walk was gorgeous and we ended our stay with a little relaxation on the hammocks!

The only disappointment is we don’t book more nights!!

Gostou The Shepherds hut is warm, dry and finished to a really nice standard - everything works, the Ninja 8-in-1 is a genius choice for such an application in the kitchen.
The onsite cafe is also top notch - we had a fantastic breakfast there to set us up for the day.

Gostou Beautiful shepherds hut with en-suite WC in a fantastic location. Everything you could need for a short break, and spotlessly clean. Wonderful views onto a peaceful fishing lake and 20 mins drive to Chester. Will definitely return.

If you’re in the mood for just some very light activity, you can take short walks on the farm, wandering through the woods and rewilding area (and perhaps taking a nice break at the picnic tables and hammocks). There’s also an antique/crafts centre next door that has 15 dealers and a constant influx of new stock to browse. For longer wanders, you can head into the Peckforton Hills (10 minutes’ drive) to stroll on the Sandstone Trail, or explore Beeston Castle (15 minutes). Either way, you’ll certainly have earned a treat from The Ice Cream Farm (five minutes) on the way home… Chester (10 minutes’ drive) is full of things to do, as well, whether you’d like to do a circuit of the city walls, explore the black-and-white buildings, visit the cathedral and Roman amphitheatre or spend the day at the zoo. The outlet shops at Cheshire Oaks might just be tempting, too…
