Gostou Good location, cafe and gift shop on site, near to pubs and local amenities.

Não gostou We couldn’t find the area for electric hookup (tents) on arrival, as the sign visible just said ‘tents non-electric’. Some dog walkers tried to help us, but we ended up at a dead end. Eventually another camper came out and pointed us in the right direction. We then had to do the same for the people that arrived after us!
The toilet block was quite a walk for those camping in tents and the temporary portaloo wasn’t clean enough to use.
One of the cars from the caravan area was taking up a space in the camping field, which was annoying, as the tents were crammed in. I think allocating pitches may have been better, it was a free for all.

Gostou Well kept and clean facilities. Great location for visiting York. Friendly community feel. Decently priced. Would reccommend.

Não gostou Sign posts on site were not particularly clear (e.g. the non-electric tent sign before the mound). We and others accidentally drove towards the back-packers only area as it seemed to suggest that this was the area for non-electric tents. Could do with a sign saying no cars on mound to avoid this happening in future. Very minor issue though, did not affect our stay.

Gostou Great location, close to York and easy drive to the park & ride into the city

Não gostou It's quite a distance to walk between the camping area and bathroom facilities. There is an option to use a port-a-loo closer to the camping but it's dreadful and has a warning notice on the door to say it's strictly for emergencies as it's only emptied once a week.....it's essentially a hole in a plastics floor. No flush, no water to wash hands and the stench/flies are horrific.
It's quite a distance to walk for the bin also.

The main bathroom facilities are not cleaned. Period. There are dirty mop buckets left outside the showers and people are asked to mop up after themselves (some do, some don't) but the water is brown and wasn't replaced in the 4 nights/5 days we were there. Toilets not physically cleaned once while were there and it showed.
The feminine hygiene bins weren't suitable, just swing bins left to build up in the heat, not great.
The facilities also aren't suitable for volume of people there on weekends (36 campers/caravans & 14 tents) only one sink, 2 toilets, 4 showers. Once Friday arrived there wasn't a time we didn't queue.

Advertised as a "peaceful adult only site" , I'm afraid it wasn't when were there.

There's also no reception or site presence at all and the security barrier is broken, you're just provided with a phone number so if you like a point of contact or that extra security feel it's probably not the place for you.

Point of Note - no fault of the campsite, purely a result of the pond in the heat - if camping, take some sort of insect repellant as the mosquitos and horse flies are out in force.

Gostou beautiful site with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. so easy to find and navigate to the pitches. bonus that they have wash, shower and toilet facilities there. I would lie to visit again.

Gostou Flat campsite and cafe/shop seemed nice

Não gostou Lack of drinking water.
I am aware that it says you don't allocate pitches, but when we stayed for 2 nights and arrived back at our tent at 7pm on the Saturday to someone else's guy ropes within ours, meaning we could not get into our tent without tripping over the other tent's guy ropes, clearly our 'neighbours' have not heard of personal space, most campsites where pitches are not allocated stipulate that you should be 10/15m from anyone else, with the exception if you know who they are. Safe to say we will not be returning to this campsite, seemed to be extremely overcrowded and we felt like we did not have appropriate access to our tent and belongings, meaning we did not feel very welcome at all!! In the photo our tent is on the left, with the entrance being on the right facing the tent on the right, which was not there on our first night, we felt blocked in on our return.

Gostou Nice and easy to get to and find. Nice location, perfect if you're looking to go to York.

Não gostou Shower was terrible. Switched between feezing and burning with 20 seconds. If you're camping, pitch up away from the ponds otherwise you will be eaten alive by flies.

Gostou Everything about this campsite is wonderful. It is such a relaxing place. From listening to the owls in the woods and watching the moorhens wandering about the campsite to sitting by the pond watching the white peacocks and talking to the goats. Have visited this site several times now and just love it.
