Setting your sights on a scenic walking break in the Shropshire Hills? Bag a pitch at Along The Milky Way and you’ll be in prime position to get out along the trails of this lovely rural area. This simple pop-up site sits alongside the river Redlake about 10 minutes’ drive from the towns of Clun (in England) and Knighton (just over the border in Wales). It’s easily accessed from the A488, a couple of minutes’ drive away, and there’s a footpath just across the road from the camping field so you’ll be able to get straight out for strolls. Whether you’re planning to wander along the riverbank, explore some of the Offa’s Dyke Path or amble around the best historic towns in Shropshire, you’ll be well placed at this quiet little site, which is a little bit away from some of the busiest parts of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. Dogs are welcome to join you here as long as they promise to be well behaved around the wildlife that lives on and around the site. Things have been kept simple on site, with just toilets and showers on the facilities front. The real bonus of this approach is that it makes sure there’s no light pollution to spoil your evenings of stargazing – the skies around often have some dazzling displays (hence the name of the site…) Both Clun and Knighton have plenty of amenities to keep you fed and watered – between them they muster several pubs, cafés, takeaways and shops, and Knighton also has a railway station for travels further afield.

Gostou This was a last minute booking and what a find small very scenic and the owners were top notch, phone signal is not very good but the wifi was perfect for what we needed. WILL defo be coming back.

Gostou Very clean site and facilities with friendly hosts and a great location for the wondering the South Shropshire hills. WiFi was onsite but due to the location didn’t always stay connected.. but you can’t argue with free WiFi and affordable pitches!

Value for money is great!

Não gostou The approach was narrow but being in a motorhome most roads are! It was only a half mile side road from the main B road. The gate onto the site was also a little tight but manageable with the large gateway opposite. Our motorhome was as wide as they go so campervans would have no problems.
The location was down in the valley so phone signal was non existent which wasn’t a problem.

Gostou Mandy and Jack are super friendly and helpful hosts. The location is fantastic, no traffic, gorgeous views and only relaxing rural sights and sounds. We love how off the beaten track it is. The facilities are simple but adequate and really well maintained; even with a little stall with things you might have forgotten and firewood. We can’t wait to visit again!

Gostou We stayed in our campervan on a lovely pitch overlooking the views at the back. We had a bbq on a dry, warm sunny evening and the following day had a wonderful walk in Clun.
Everyone is super friendly and the hosts couldn't be more accommodating. First class.

Gostou Thank you Mandy and Jack for a wonderful family weekend stay. You were very accommodating making our stay relaxing and stress free. Facilities were great, especially the little extras in the shower room, lovely touch!! and the additional extras you can buy, our son loved the giant marshmallows!! The site was well kept and thank you for the chalk board to play on, again our son loved it. Will definitely be back for another peaceful stay!! 😀

Gostou The rural location - when we managed to find it!

Não gostou 1 toilet with a shower inside just wasn't enough for the size of the site.
We were plugged into a plughole on an extension reel fixed to a fence which therefore wasn't very safe.
The shower at 20p for 3 mins didn't leave much time after adjusting the temperature & therefore needed to get out & put in at least another 20p!

Atrações locais

There are plenty of options for walks in this area, whether you choose to stay local or head out to a hotspot like Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (40 minutes’ drive). The Offa’s Dyke Path is a popular trail too, and you can find out more about it at the Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton (10 minutes). As well as country rambles, the area has some lovely urban strolls. You may like to start in Clun (10 minutes) to see the 15th-century packhorse bridge and the ruins of Clun Castle. Hopton Castle (20 minutes) and Stokesay Castle (25 minutes) are also worth visiting, and the latter is close to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (25 minutes), a useful hub of information and activities. Shrewsbury (an hour) is a pretty town to wander around, but if you don’t want to drive that far you may prefer Ludlow (35 minutes) – it’s got a splendid medieval castle and has developed a reputation as a foodie hotspot thanks to its market, indie food businesses and annual food festival.
