Bunk up in a barn at Beltonville Farm for a brill time in the White Peak part of the Peak District – this site’s just a mile from the Monsal Trail and therefore splendidly placed for a strolling, cycling or horse-riding holiday in Derbyshire. When you’re not tottering along this disused railway line transformed into a pretty path, soak up the views over Miller’s Dale; the park is in an elevated position looking out across this Site of Special Scientific Interest’s rock-studded landscape. Chillout sessions are of course boosted by having nosh to chomp on, so drop by the farm shop on site before dusk to pick up bits and bobs such as local veg. The site also has its own café, the Cow Shed Café, which is open every day from 9am. Rather a meander followed by a meal out? Map your way to one of several local pubs within a three-mile radius instead for supper. This is a back to basics site but it's well maintained and stretches to such luxuries as toilets and coin-operated showers for guests’ use (the showers require £1 coins, so please bring them with you). There's also a washing-up area and facilities for people with disabilities. Wood can be purchased at the park for the firepit.

Gostou Excellent staff working hard to accommodate everyone on an extremely busy weekend.
The farm shop and café on the site was great.
Good location, easy access to walking routes which were well signposted.
Great views - however not as easy to appreciate on such a busy site.

Não gostou Campsite was overbooked for the bank holiday weekend which meant the site was crowded and noisy. Felt like staying in a carpark at times and no control over spacing of tents.
Facilities were basic and not enough for the number of people on the site. Okay for a budget or back-to-basics camping experience but not enough to justify the price of the stay.

Não gostou Extremely busy on bank holiday weekend which is fine, however there was a lack of toilets (one block of 5) and showers, especially considering there were hundreds of people.

Gostou Great cafe with brilliant tasty food, friendly staff, clean facilities, plenty of camping room

Não gostou £1 for a shower when the max temp is 40°C and the low ventilation means every surface gets condensation, shop prices are high on some items (£5 for a can of ale!)

Gostou Lovely great open field. Showers were good, a bit expensive compared to other sites at 50p for same time. Toilets and wash-up facilities functional for what you need. Cafe / Bar were ok for what we needed it for. Friendly staff.

Não gostou Groupings of tents and caddy style vehicles created quite a bit of noise late into night and other tents the other side of the field playing music quite loud, and shouting in the dead of night. Sound carries at night. I fully understand it’s not something the owners can police. We paid for two nights and decided to pack up after the first night. As a group of tents and vans parked within a car’s width of our tent despite all the open space elsewhere in the field, so didn’t fancy being kept up again.

No return stay for us I’m afraid, I personally believe that basic camping etiquette has gone out of the window thanks to elements of hurd mentality and generations. This is not just on your campsite, we’ve witnessed it on others over the last few years.

Gostou Site is very well maintained with brilliant services its an absolute gem in the peak district and the cow shed cafe bar and shop are 1st class food was amazing and the staff are amazing and so friendly and helpfully other sites could learn alot from them im 100% a future regular visitor already planning on a holiday with my whole family

Gostou Lovely shepards hut. Everything you need is in this hut. The bed is so comfortable and pillows too. Our second visit in this hut and will defo be returning.

Squidged between Bakewell and Buxton (15 minutes’ drive from either), Beltonville has a nifty location near two of Derbyshire’s most popular towns. Make a foray to the former for River Wye wanders, passing by the medieval arched stone bridge, and the latter to see around some stunning architecture. Highlights on the heritage trail around Buxton Spa include the Georgian-era crescent, the Roman baths and the cupola-topped Devonshire Dome; for older buildings, the village of Castleton (25 minutes), lying in the lee of Mam Tor, has the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle to peer at. This spot’s also the gateway to the Blue John caves, the only places on the planet where the semi-precious Blue John stone can be found. Cast your eye over the largest intact piece ever mined on display at Treak Cliff Cavern (25 minutes), which also has some rather sizable stalactites and stalagmites for geologist types to gaze lovingly upon. Those aiming to give their walking boots a good workout here have plenty of choice: it's well located not just for the Monsal Trail and Miller's Dale but also Chee Dale, Tideswell Dale and Winnets Pass.
