From 's local village of Pórtugos, hike even higher up for about an hour and a half to the waterfall where two rivers meet at the Junta de Los Rios. A recreation area with picnic tables is here too for snacks amid spectacular scenes. Elsewhere around the Alpujarra, pottering around the other high villages or among the olive groves on the lower slopes and trekking as much as poss of the GR7/E4 European long-distance footpath are decent days out; if you want to travel a bit further, Granada is about 75 kilometres away.
