Start getting to know your surroundings with a walk or bike ride nearby – there are electric and mountain bikes to rent on site and Luís and team can point you towards some local walking or bike trails to take you to some of the best local views (perhaps visiting the São Domingos viewpoint, four kilometres away, or heading to the wooden walkways of Passadiços do Paiva, half an hour’s drive away). Of course, the Douro valley is well known for its wine, and there are several wineries you can drop into if you’re walking/biking through the vineyards. River cruises and canoe trips are available locally as well, or you can soak up some scenery while relaxing on the river beach in Lomba (15 minutes’ drive). For a full day out, make your way to Porto (45 minutes) to cross the Dom Luís bridge, see the Clérigos Tower, visit the port cellars and enjoy strolls along the riverbanks and through the colourful tile-clad streets.
