This is the setup at Agriturismo Serraiola Alta, a peaceful olive oil and rosemary farm with sunbeds to lounge on as you stare out at stunning scenery, with a fancy ensuite bell tent to hide in when you’ve had enough of the rays.
Based in a rural region a 10-minute drive from Suvereto, a medieval settlement with a handful of traditional restaurants serving Tuscan specialities, the park is a first-rate spot for a laidback hol without having to venture too far for urban amenities. The village has independent shops aplenty, including grocers, bakeries, a butcher, a fishmonger and a weekly market – so finding food to chuck on the barbecue back on site is a cinch.
Or perhaps you’d like to pick up supplies for a picnic and escape to the Etruscan Coast? The Maremma’s sandy beaches, spread across the Gulf of Baratti, Follonica and San Vincenzo, are reachable in half an hour if so. And when you want to keep walks local, there are woods to roam through right from the park.

Start your Tuscan tours on foot by taking a walk through the woods and green hilly countryside surrounding the site to the Sanctuary of Madonna del Frassine (half an hour).
Interested in geology and geothermal activity? You’ll need to get in the car to gaze at geysers that send up springs of hot steam through the ground in Larderello (30 minutes’ drive). The park is also half an hour from the Etruscan Coast’s sweeping sandy beaches around the Gulf of Baratti, Follonica and San Vincenzo.
Back near the site, try local wines at vineyards in the area – perhaps around Val di Cornia (five minutes), an area with villages that organiss medieval-themed folklore performances, historical processions and kids’ entertainment for tourists.
If visiting local urban spots has you hankering to tour more, try Sassetta (10 minutes) – surrounded by chestnut trees and with valley views – or Campiglia Marittima (20 minutes) overlooking the coast.
