For more thermal bathing, pack your swimming costume and head to the Poseidon Thermal Gardens (20 minutes’ walk), Ischia’s largest spa park, to spend time at the 20 pools, wellness centre and six hectares’ worth of terraces or on the private beach. Alternatively, take a dip in a natural environment at the hot springs on the beaches of Sorgeto and Maronti (10 and 35 minutes’ drive, respectively). The coast around Cartaromana (half an hour) is worth a gander as well for its views across to the Aragonese Castle, a medieval structure teetering on a rocky islet linked to Ischia by a causeway. Not had enough time at the island’s famed gardens? Crack on towards the collection of cacti at the Giardini Ravino (10 minutes’ walk) or the brightly coloured botanicals at the Giardini la Mortella (10 minutes’ drive) back in Forio. The town also edges the scenic beaches of Cava dell'Isola, Chiaia and San Francesco, which are all within walking distance (under 40 minutes on foot) of the urban centre.
