Camping de la Plage

Start your exploration of this verdant corner of Corsica in Aregno (10 minutes’ drive), where whitewashed houses with pink slate roofs are overlooked by a baroque-era church and surrounded by lush citrus orchards and almond groves. Other gorgeous villages worth visiting include Pigna (15 minutes), which fell into disrepair and was completely rebuilt in the 1960s, and Corbara (10 minutes), with its wealth of ornate churches and chapels. Back down on the coast, Algajola (five minutes) has a sandy beach dominated by an imposing fortress; there are several viewpoints where you can watch the sun sink down into the Med on clear days. Just north are several pebbled coves like Marine de Davia and Cala di Furnellu (both 10 minutes) with pristine water for snorkelling. If you fancy time immersed in history and culture, head for Calvi (20 minutes), where you can wander the 15th-century citadel, visit Cathédrale St-Jean-Baptiste and hike up to the chapel of Notre Dame de la Serra for amazing sea views. Prefer a lazy day? Grab a lounger and snooze in the sun at one of Calvi’s seafront lidos.
