Place yourself in the middle of the county and have easy access to both north and south as well as moors and beaches with a stay at Lydford Caravan and Camping Park; this friendly and well-kept site also has pretty views of Dartmoor’s tors from its designated dog-walking area… Start planning your adventures with a browse of the tourist and local info at Lydford's dishwashing and veg prep area, or ask staff for their fave attractions and activities in the area. Need a top tip before setting off? The deepest gorge in England is only five minutes' walk away: set off on the circular trail around this National Trust-protected place, passing by the Whitelady Waterfall and Devil’s Cauldron. For bike rides, the Granite Way cycle route runs near the site to Okehampton, nine miles away. Practicalities are covered on site for a restful place to come back to, with ladies' and gents' amenities blocks, a family bathroom, a launderette and charging facilities all available to guests. The site also has a well-stocked shop selling many items, including meat (pork, venison and lamb) from Dartmoor for the barbecue, Dartmoor ice cream, chocolate treats and wine, beer, cider and spirits. A farm shop is on the outskirts of Launceston, about a 20-minute drive away, and a large supermarket is about five minutes further on for stocking up for your stay or for a barbecue back at base.

Polubione The area is packed with essential spaces like washing up area, toilet, shower, washing area and drinking water area and accesible 24hours. This areas are included on the pitch price except for the washing machine and dryer you need to bring 5£(coins) for washing and 1£ coin for dryer

Niepolubione When we visited there is a road closed signage before entering lydford gorge because of a bridge under construction so please check ahead by calling their reception. It took us 25mins drive to get there.

The road closure has been difficult. I struggled with bureaucracy (5 long wait phone calls!) to get a yellow sign in place, with no result. In the end we made our own black and white sign saying 'CAMPSITE OPEN' next to the bank of yellow signs, which has been in place for some weeks now. In any case, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused to you.

Polubione Location was good, we visited the gorge. Facilities were good. Only stayed for one night, stop over for Cornwall
National trust and a good pub for food within 10 minutes walk

Niepolubione Signage, we booked the night before, at the time of a road closure and this wasn’t mentioned in the booking confirmation. There are clear instructions with the booking that there is only one way in to the campsite with directions from north or south. It would have been helpful to know that the only way in was a road block and diversion sign but to ignore that to get to the campsite. Would have saved us at least half an hour.

Polubione Well kept site, the toilet blocks were very clean and the warden was very helpful and friendly

Niepolubione Dog walk area encroached on privacy of other campers as it circled around where people were camping.
Booked super pitch but electric hook up point was some distance from pitch so needed a very long cable to plug in not mentioned when booking.
The nearest place to eat was 0.9 miles way and being disabled was a struggle

Od administratora: I'm pleased that, overall, you agree with many other visitors that we provide a well-run site, however I'm disappointed regarding the aspects of the site you were not happy about.

1. On arrival, you were offered an extension power cable by our helpful Warden, which you chose to refuse. I think this is the first time in my 20 years of custodianship this has been reported as an issue.
2. Having checked with our Wardens, you didn't mention the 'pathway behind your pitch' issue during your 3 night stay. Had you done so, we would have been more than happy to offer you an alternative pitch and to help you to relocate your motorhome.
3. I believe that you must have missed the most local pub, The Castle, which, according to Google Maps and Ordnance Survey is 0.45 miles from the site. Again, if you had mentioned this to the Wardens at the time, you might have enjoyed a pleasant evening in a nice country pub.

Polubione On arrival i was welcomed to the site and shown to my pitch. I headed off into the village and had a nice few beers at the local pub and some lovely food before heading back to a glorious sunset and a nice quiet evening on a glorious campsite .
What else could you want ?

Please beware of using satnav systems when approaching the site due to narrow roads. Approach via the A386. The only route for towed or large units is: From the north: Turn south from the A30 onto the A386 signposted Tavistock and Plymouth. Continue for approximately 3.5 miles, passing the Fox and Hounds pub on the left. In another mile, turn right into Lydford village just before the Dartmoor Inn (look for a tall brown tourist board sign showing Lydford, campsite symbols, golf and Lydford Gorge with a telephone box on the left). Note the junction is slightly obscured so approach slowly. After turning, in half a mile take the first right at the war memorial and in 50 yards bear right at the Y-junction. The site is 100 yards on the left. From the south: Via Tavistock, approach only using the A386. At the Dartmoor Inn turn left into Lydford village. After turning, in half a mile turn right at the war memorial and then in 50 yards bear right at the Y-junction. The site is 100 yards along on the left.

If you’d rather ditch your ride and take public transport from just outside the site, Okehampton to the north and Tavistock to the south are both under half an hour away by bus. Head to the latter for the Museum of Dartmoor Life and cool castle ruins, or take the car if you’re planning on heading deeper into Dartmoor afterwards to climb the rocky High Willhays and Yes Tor peaks (both about 55 minutes’ drive). Tavistock, an ancient stannary and market town on the River Tavy, is also top notch: journey here for the living museum on Morwellham Quay (25 minutes), the historic Buckland Abbey (half an hour) and the family-friendly Tamar Trails Centre activity area. Within a few minutes' walk of the site, veer off on your gorge stroll for a look at Lydford Castle and Saxon Town, a former prison dating back to the ninth century and now managed by English Heritage. It sits next to St Petroc’s Church plus a pub serving food (both also within a five-minute walk of the site). If the kids are keen for the coast, Plymouth is 40 minutes’ drive away.
