In a rather lovely spot for those seeking scenic walks, this smart, family-friendly Cumbria glampsite in the Lake District National Park is about 20 minutes’ drive from Penrith and 10 minutes from the shoreline of Ullswater. The site is in a pretty valley surrounded by classic North Lakeland countryside with easy access to top spots like Ambleside, Grasmere and Windermere. To get the best of the local views, the team on site recommend a walk from Howtown to Glenridding, a lake cruise on Ullswater and a drive over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass to gaze up at the national park’s peaks. Not that you have to stray very far to start soaking up the scenery – on site, there are views towards Blencathra and the Great Mell Fell, and you could go for a little stroll by Trout Beck running alongside one side of the site. Need a bit more activity to keep energetic types happy? Head next door to Rookin House Farm Centre for horse riding, archery, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting and other outdoorsy antics. Whether you’ve picked a relaxing or action-packed day, a comfy stay awaits back on the site, where all accommodation has heating, beds made up, an ensuite bathroom and space to relax outdoors. Kitchen facilities are provided for each one too, so pick up supplies in Penrith or Keswick (15 minutes’ drive). The nearest pub is a couple of miles away if you fancy an evening out.

Polubione We really enjoyed our cabin stay! The kids loved the mezzanine area and we appreciated the little quirky features that added to the charm. It was a great place for a family break and we'd definitely consider staying here again.

Polubione Gorgeous pod with everything you need the only downside was we needed more pillows but it was fully functional for us as a family of 4. Very clean, staff were friendly and helpful

Niepolubione There’s not a lot on the site for the children and my daughter had brought her football however there are no ball games allowed anywhere which was a shame. The children went down to the games room but there wasn’t much in there for them to keep them entertained.

Polubione The units are very clean and well-built. The location is very quiet and right next to an activity centre.

Niepolubione No wifi and phone signal is non-existent (we have various phone providers including Libara but no joy). The TV couldn’t connect to the internet so we could not watch movies at night after a day of hiking. We resorted to watching regular TV but each time someone goes out, the TV connection/wires get loose and the display gets dodgy.

I also couldn’t understand why very young children like a one-year-old will need to be counted in when other accommodations don’t count them.

Polubione Lovely quiet site in peaceful location. Dog walks straight from site great and spectacular views of Blencathra from 'Harry's Bench'. Pod was very clean and comfortable with all you need for short stay. Lovely terrace with a gate meant dog enclosed at all times which was great.

Niepolubione Wifi was a little poor at times. Seemed to work better outside the pod.

Polubione Cabin was wonderful! Well said out, immaculately clean… everything that we needed for 2 adults and 2 children.
Games room & park on site were fab. Some elements of the park were a bit big for our nearly 3 year old, but he made do!

Niepolubione A wee pub would be good on site, but we can’t have it all!!

Polubione Lovley clean site, we stayed in a glamping cabin great facilities everything you could need the bed over the dinner area was so comfy! The site it's self nice and quiet.
The games room with TV/ pool table was a bonus with having having older teens/young adult. Staff friendly and easy fast check in.

Niepolubione Our only thing that let the cabin down was not been able to log into smart TV as Internet didn't work with TV brand in cabin.
You can hot-spot it from your phone tho if your date allows.

Polubione What a fantastic stay. Spotlessly clean EVERYWHERE. The small touches in the cabin, dish washer tablets, sponge, tea towel and the range off tea and coffee etc. We loved our stay. The whole site was clean from top to toe. Facilities on site were great. Such a picturesque place to stay.

There’s a 20-mile walk around the shore, but on the water, a rowing boat, canoe or kayak are some of the ways to get out. There are more streams to splash about on the way to the pretty Aira Force waterfall (10 minutes), too. Historic steamers travel across Windermere, accessed through Ambleside (35 minutes), and watersports are also available here. It’s a little quieter on Grasmere (half an hour) for those of you looking for a peaceful paddle or a swim without the big boats around. If more outdoorsy activities are your next step, there are mountain hikes up Blencathra (15 minutes) or Helvellyn (20 minutes). History next on the agenda instead? Be on the lookout for Castlerigg Stone Circle (15 minutes), the Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes) or Keswick (15 minutes) for the pencil museum, the brewery and Derwentwater.
