Polubione The location is lovely with the river and pubs.

Niepolubione The toilets and shower blocks weren't cleaned while we were there. Toilet roll ran out, then was changed around midday but still didn't clean the showers. There were dead flies and midges on the sinks. Washing up facilities weren't clean. There are so many apple trees and because of the fallen apples that are rotting there were so many ants, they were crawling over our table, dog bowls and everywhere. I know that you can't get rid of ants but if a lot of the apples were cleared this may help. We only lasted the one night as couldn't relax and enjoy it. The site has so much potential to be a lot more welcoming. Nobody comes and greets you when you arrive or shows you where the facilities are, it was just a white board with your name on and pitch number. Such a shame was looking forward to a relaxing weekend but lost money instead.

To clarify a few points raised: Gunthorpe Camping operates on a convenient self-check-in basis, clearly outlined prior to arrival, with welcome whiteboards directing guests to their pitches and facilities. As an established site set within a traditional, natural orchard environment, insect activity can occasionally occur naturally outdoors. Our facilities are regularly maintained and serviced throughout the day, particularly during periods when the site is running at full capacity over busy weekends.

Polubione I love this site. It’s surrounded by great pubs and restaurants all within a few feet of the main entrance. The river walks are all opposite and I would recommend the walk to Burton Joyce along the river and a visit to the Nelson pub with its lovely outdoor space and food. Train stations close by if you want to venture into Nottingham and Newark is a short drive away. The owners give you all the info you need upfront and then you’re pretty much left alone which we approve of.

Niepolubione Not really a dislike but a bit of a deep clean in the male showers and toilets wouldn't go amiss, and possibly some signs to tell other campers to clean their own mess up.

Polubione Excellent location, close to riverside walks. Good for dog walking, cycling and fishing. Close to several good pubs and cafes.
Spacious pitches with nice countryside views.
I liked the self check-in

Niepolubione Overflowing bins on arrival which only got worse through the week. Although there are recycling bins, they are not labelled, and because the other bins are overflowing, everything got used for general rubbish.
Toilets and showers were dirty. They were not cleaned at all during our stay. If you lift the non-slip mat in the shower it is black and slimy underneath.
The poor hygiene at the site is the reason for the low score. And it’s such a shame because this could be a really lovely site with a bit of TLC

We completely agree with your feedback regarding the bins and showers. Due to a recent road closure for resurfacing, our local bin lorry missed a collection week which impacted on a particularly busy, hot weekend when visitor numbers (due to wedding in the village) and shower usage—peaked, this unfortunately led to the bins overflowing. We have also noted your comments on the shower mats and have since removed them, as we agree they weren't the best choice for holding dirt.

Polubione The pitch was flat, and the local area was fantastic.

Niepolubione I hate giving anyone a bad review, but there’s a lot that could (and should!) be done that takes little effort when running a campsite. Whilst our pitch was indeed flat, that’s the only plus. It was littered with dried dog poos on arrival. All showers were filthy with thick black mould on the shower mats. The men’s showers literally trickled water at best, but the ladies were apparently really powerful. The waste area had rubbish not only in the bins but everywhere else too, and this was one of the first things you see upon arrival. The Elsan point. Well not only had little thought gone into the setup, it was caked in ‘mess’ all around the outside and beyond. And what’s the stagnant trough doing next to it?? And whilst you might think that little of the above was caused by the lack of attention by the owners, not once did we see anything being cleaned and all the above described mess that was very clearly evident on arrival was exactly the same as we left. So whilst I’m sorry for the poor review, it’s totally honest and it’s something that was easily avoided.
Oh, and one of your previous reviewers said that the bushes either side of the entrance need to be cut back. Well if they have been then there’s still a way to go! Nobody expects to scuff scrape their caravan or camper entering and exiting the campsite.

We are sorry to hear that your brief visit did not meet your expectations. As you arrived late on Saturday evening during a fully booked weekend at peak capacity, our facilities experienced heavy use between scheduled cleaning times.
Regarding the waste area, local roadworks unfortunately prevented our scheduled council collections from taking place; whilst we did our best to manage the situation and keep the area tidy we understand this was not ideal.
Because we strive to provide a relaxing, high-standard experience for all our guests—and given that a single-night stay during our busiest period didn’t allow you the time to properly enjoy what our site has to offer—we feel it would be best for you to book with an alternative campsite for any future travels.

Polubione Lovely spacious pitch which was very clean. Great communication when it came to arrival date. Definitely booking again for a return visit.

Polubione A very basic campsite. Only 2 ladies showers, so there was a wait time during busy periods. Showers were only basic. There were some apple trees and a lot of windfalls which have rotted and been smashed as had been driven over, it would have been nice if these were cleared.

Polubione * Lovely little campsite.
* Stayed from Monday to Friday.
* Toilet and shower block was clean and perfectly adequate.
* The first few nights were peaceful, quiet and relaxing.
* Overall, a nice site with good facilities.

Niepolubione * On Thursday night, new arrivals let the stay down.
* Several dogs were off their leads, despite this apparently not being allowed.
* Dogs were running around the site and barking at everyone and everything.
* The barking continued until around 11pm and then started again just after 6am.
* Unfortunately, this experience has put us off returning to the site.
