This is a peaceful and remote part of Louisiana, yet within 45 minutes' drive of the vibrant Creole city of New Orleans, via a scenic drive through Louisiana swamps and across spectacular Lake Pontchartrain. Before or after you hit the city, the Indian Hills team recommends picking your own blueberries with an amble around Blue Harvest Farms, an organic farm 35 minutes' drive away, or making for Louisiana River Adventure within a 50-minute drive, to see Louisiana wilderness up close and try outdoor activities such as tubing, kayaking, canoeing and horse riding. And then onto the splendid city of New Orleans, Louisiana's biggest and among the top ten most visited cities in the USA: reach it from Indian Hills by the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, the longest straight bridge over water in the world, spanning more than 125,000 acres of wetland. New Orleans is known worldwide for its French Quarter, its 19th-century mansions, its cuisine, its many festivals including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival/ Jazz Fest, and the scenic Mississippi River rides on the Natchez steamboat… you'll need several days in town at least. As it's set on the banks of the Mississippi, nature and wildlife are a strong theme of the city too: check out the locals at the Audubon Nature Institute and at public gardens including the New Orleans Botanical Garden. City Park, one of the biggest urban parks in the country.
