Camping El Cid

This is a top spot for adventurous types: the Irta mountains are a 20-minute drive away for climbs and clambers, and are part of the Natural Park of Serra d’Irta, where there are plenty of hiking and biking routes to follow. If that’s not enough outdoor time, the site is less than an hour from Ebro Delta Natural Park and Reserve and Pret de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park, and the five-kilometre coastal Via Verde route for walkers and cyclists between Oropesa and Benicàssim is 40 minutes away. City days aren’t too much of a jaunt if anyone’s craving that urban feel – it’s an hour and a half in the car from here to Valencia, home to museums, palaces, gardens, an aquarium and a zoo (and loads of shopping of course). Budding zoologists who aren’t up for that trip might prefer Jardin del Papagayo, where they can get hands on with some colourful parrots, or they might be lured by the promise of thrill rides at PortAventure theme park, a little over an hour up the coast.
