A lake, two brothers and a splendid setting between Provençal lavender meadows and the peaks of the southern Alps… there are reasons aplenty why Les Rives du Lac is such an excellent and enthused-about place to stay. Les Rives is family-run, with one brother managing the site and the second running the restaurant, both making it their mission to ensure you and yours have a comfy stay. It's all on the banks of a small, calm lake with frequent watersports activities during July and August – or you could just decide to have gentle dips instead: as it's fairly shallow, water temperatures are around 24°C in summer. And. What a lot there is to do here after you've dried yourself off from a dip in the lake. Don't change out of your swimming togs with too much haste, as you'll want to check out the site waterpark: there are two heated and covered pools (or uncovered, if the weather allows), as well as a Jacuzzi, waterslides and a paddling pool. Done? Check out the multisports court, table tennis, table football and pétanque court of a summer morning while the kids are at their activity club... then settle down in the evening to take in the July and August entertainment, including outdoor cinema screenings and free concerts on the restaurant terrace. Or you and the kids could get busy or leisurely with the help of the play area with giant trampoline, or fishing from the site, or free wifi, or bike hire... Off site, Les Rives is about 10 minutes' drive from the Provence town of Veynes, five minutes' walk from the amusement park of Base de Loisirs des Iscles and half an hour's drive from department capital Gap.

Les Rives du Lac has the warm weather of the Provence in a mountainous landscape, in a tiptop base for outdoor pursuits with many accessible directly from or close to the site: try swimming in the lake, fishing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, treetop adventure climbing courses, horse and pony riding, miniature golf, pedalo boating... Too much activity for one trip? Potter around the Provençal villages instead, seeing where your car leads you around the local gorges, rock formations, bee and cheese farms, old churches, and castles (many of them hosting music festivals throughout the summer). Many markets selling local produce are around too, such as the Marché de Gap, the biggest market in the Hautes-Alpes region, which runs on Saturday mornings in the main square.
