This is a peaceful campsite that welcomes families and dogs to its level and well-kept pitches, which are sheltered by mature trees and hedgerows. With facilities including hot showers and flushing toilets – plus a playground, games field, dog exercise field and footpath to a local country park – Folly Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a tiptop place to stay in the gorgeous Hampshire countryside. How to unwind here? Well, there are plenty of spots around the site to let your hair down (thanks to its peaceful and level grassy pitches, play areas, wifi, free showers and walks in the surrounding woodlands) but you’ll have your choice of many a day out from here too. Perhaps a venture into the South Downs National Park (10 minutes’ drive)? Into the vibrant city of Winchester (15 minutes) for its historic sites, such as the medieval cathedral, the ruins of Wolvesey Castle, the working 18th-century corn mill, Jane Austen’s house or the castle’s medieval round table, once sat at by King Arthur? From Winchester, there’s a short stroll along the water meadows of the river Itchen down to England’s oldest medieval almshouse and The Hospital of St Cross or the 25-minute ascent to St Catherine’s Hill for views of the city, a dramatic chalk hill and an Iron Age hillfort. As for ventures from the site, you might want to set your next target as one of three local pubs serving home-cooked food in the villages of Sparsholt, Littleton or Crawley (this one’s 25 minutes’ walk away).

I had booked to stay 2 nights but hadn't planned for the extra cold nights and it was too uncomfortable for us. The staff/owner was so considerate, asked if there's was anything they could do to help. They also helped make a temporary fix to our equipment. They had pitched us under a shady tree to help with the hot daytime sun too. Above and beyond!
The site was brilliant for my 3 and 6 year olds, the play park is well built with plenty of activities. There's even a ball game field near the entrance, that's safe, spacious and includes balls and rackets to use.
The toilet, shower, washing up block was always clean, the hot water is quite slow but it's a good reminder to slow down and take in the beautiful birdsong - which is everywhere there!
We hired a fire pit which was worth the extra. Very sturdy and easy to pick up, empty and return.
Secure entrance makes the whole site feel safe too. I wasn't sure about staying so close to a fairly main road but the surrounding fields make it feel like you're further away and we were rarely bothered by any noise.
Definitely recommend and look forward to more visits.

As we're a dark sky site we try and keep artificial light to a minimum on the campsite so campers can enjoy the amazing starlight skies. Likte: The playground was great and the kids were very content there for most of the holiday and it was good to get the campfire out and toast marshmallows aswell. We booked early check-in and late checkout. However when we arrived someone was on our pitch bit the manager rectified the issue within minutes with no fuss.

Likte ikke: No site shop but we weren't expecting one so came fully stocked.

Likte: Folly Farm is a wonderful open space that feels very calm and safe for children to enjoy and play. The play area where we were pitched by, allowed our child to entertain himself and to make new friends with other children which was lovely. The facilities were clean and not too far away to walk, and the ground was smooth and rock free allowing us to pitch up easily. The location is great with Winchester only a short drive away, lovely woodland walks to explore and beautiful Stockbridge nearby too. We would definitely come back.

Likte ikke: Both ladies bathrooms were locked one morning leaving us with a rather shabby, dirty storage container converted into a make-shift bathroom to use temporarily which wasn't a great experience. Would have been better to lock one side of the loos for cleaning allowing the other side to still be used maybe. Also being near an army base we occasionally had loud helicopters and a chinnock flying over the campsite which concerned our child a bit, but it was only on the odd occasion and didn't spoil our stay here.

The ladies showers and toilets are open until 11am weekdays and 12pm on weekends then closed for cleaning for an hour. Whilst they are being cleaned a small toilet block is opened to ensure everyone can use the loo if required. This little toilet block is about to be refurbished so hopefully it will be more to your liking on your next visit. I'm sorry to hear your son was concerned when a Chinook flew over. This doesn't happen very often and is usually a highlight for our guests. It comes from the nearest army base which is 30 miles away in Odiham, near Basingstoke, which is quite a distance away. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Get keyed up on the local history… with hillforts, National Trust properties and historic steam railways around, there are many jaunts to take you way back. Closest to the site, there's Danebury Iron Age Hillfort (10 minutes’ drive), Mottisfont’s (15 minutes) historical priory, garden and country estate (15 minutes) or Winchester’s (15 minutes) cathedral, castle, markets and fairs. Perhaps the most iconic of the lot, Stonehenge (35 minutes) is a short trip away. Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' (25 minutes) will take you on a ride along a 19th-century heritage steam train line, while the National Motor Museum (45 minutes) and the maritime museum at Buckler's Hard (55 minutes) are full to the brim with old artefacts. Once you’re done with country house tours – perhaps at Broadlands House (35 minutes) or the National Trust’s Georgian Hinton Ampner (25 minutes) – a festival might bring you firmly to the present again. The Boomtown Fair venue (20 minutes) and Carfest South venue (25 minutes) are both close by. But, how to finish off your stay? Maybe the 72-hectare arboretum at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens (20 minutes), the birds of prey experiences at the Hawk Conservancy Trust (25 minutes), Marwell Zoo (half an hour), Salisbury Cathedral (half an hour) or the kid-friendly Paultons Park, Home of Peppa Pig World (half an hour)?
