Scouts gathered at camp

Scouting offers everyday adventure to 400,000 young people across the UK. And what better place to try new adventures that when camping in some of the UK’s most spectacular locations?

There are nearly 800 campsites across the UK that cater primarily (and in some cases exclusively) for Scouts and Scout Groups. Whether you are planning to be entirely based at an activity centre, or just want somewhere to pitch a tent as a starting point for walking, climbing or canoeing expeditions further afield, then this is the right place to look.

Whether it’s a small greenfield campsite in Scotland, a mountaineering centre in Wales or an surprisingly large area of woodland right in the middle or inner city London there are Scout campsites to suit all tastes and locations.

The Scout Association has five Scout Activity Centres of its own across the UK. These offer camping and accommodation, adventurous activities and great rural surrounding, all supported by teams of qualified staff. The centres are:

  • Hawkshirt Scout Activity Centre, Northumberland
  • Downe Scout Activity Centre, Rural Kent
  • Gilwell Park Scout Activity Centre, Epping Forest, London
  • Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre, New Forest
  • Youlbury Scout Activity Centre, Oxfordshire

The Scout Activity Centres have been developed with the specific aim of providing leading resources to help Scouts take part in residential and outdoor activities. Our teams will do all they can to help you organise a brilliant, never to be forgotten experience.  They will help you plan your visit and once on site will provide the support and activities you need.

Whatever campsite or activity you choose, make sure you ask the right questions. How far will you be from activities? How much will it cost to get there? Do you need activity instructors of your own? Most Scout campsites are run by Scouts for Scouts – so if you can’t find the answer online, they should be happy to answer them over the phone.

Happy camping!
