The salty sea air combines with the scent of pine trees at Country Camp at Camping Eurosol – and that glorious mix will no doubt encourage you to take a few deep breaths, slow down and relax into your holiday at this Landes family site close to the Bay of Biscay and a few minutes' drive from Vielle-Saint-Girons. The tents are already set up here, in the shade of the maritime forest and with proper beds (and bed linen), a small kitchen area and outdoor furniture provided for each one. And with all that sorted, all that remains is for you to decide what you're going to do first… For many guests, the first outing simply has to be to the beach – it's only about 700 metres away, and it stretches for as far as they eye can see (in fact, it’s about a hundred kilometres long, and goes all the way down to Biarritz, which is about an hour away by car). There are some good surf waves here too, and a couple of surf schools at the beach can help you learn how to tackle them (lessons are pretty popular, so best reserve ahead). Waves too choppy for you? Don't worry – you can instead take swims at the site’s indoor and outdoor pools. Other leisure facilities on site include tennis courts, sports fields, playgrounds – and a TV room/cyber café for when all that activity gets a bit too much. Fitness sessions, kids’ club activities and evening entertainments run in the summer months too. A well-stocked shop is on hand for supplies for your kitchen (including fresh bread), but the site also has a takeaway and a restaurant/bar for times when you don't fancy cooking.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

A nice way to explore the area is to bring bikes or rent on site to pedal through the woods and along the coast. There are also options nearby for watersports at Étang de Léon (15 minutes' drive), where you can also take a boat trip through the next-door mangroves. Next to the lake, the town of Léon has a night market every evening in high season that’s worth a trip; if you’d rather do a market earlier in the day, the team on site recommend a trip to Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains (15 minutes). If the kids aren’t into shopping, perhaps they’d prefer a day at Adrénaline Parc (20 minutes), Aquitaine’s biggest adventure park. Of course, when you’re this close to the border you don't have to limit yourselves to outings within France – a popular day trip from here takes you to San Sebastián (an hour and a half) to get your fill of the city's famous tapas dishes.
