Keen to set up camp at the Croatian seaside? Here’s your chance. And what’s more, when you book a stay at Camp Klenovica, which has its own private pebble beach on Kvarner Bay, spectacular views over the Adriatic Sea are yours for free, as this family-friendly site rises in terraces up 12 hectares of landscaped hillside.
Set on the Adriatic Highway between the pretty coastal resorts of Novi Vinodolski and Senj (both 15 minutes’ drive), the campsite covers all your food and shopping concerns, thanks to the grocery shop, informal self-service restaurant and pizzeria. There’s also a playground for younger guests – which is handily right next to the laid-back beach bar so you can enjoy a chilled beer while keeping an eye on your offspring.
There’s plenty for all age groups to do, from fishing, snorkelling and swimming off the private beach to sunbathing at the swimming pool complex (catch those spectacular views from the sun deck), which also has shower cabins and a well-located bar for non-stop refreshments.
If you need any more in the way of entertainment, it’s a mere 10 minutes’ stroll along the seafront prom into the fishing village of Klenovica, where you can take your pick of waterside restaurants, cafés and bars.

Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Lokale bezienswaardigheden
Staying at Camp Klenovica puts you in prime position for day trips to several national parks; if you’re keen on hiking, make for the forested trails of Risnjak National Park, where you just might spot brown bears or lynxes. There are serious rock-climbing opportunities among the limestone landscapes of Northern Velebit National Park, while spectacular waterfalls and walking routes through alpine foothills await in Plitvice Lakes National Park (all around an hour’s drive).
Head for seafront Senj (15 minutes) to tour the 16th-century hilltop Nehaj Fortress, amble around the town walls and have a wander into history museums and trendy art galleries in the charismatic old town. When you run out of steam for any more sightseeing, there are loads of bars and cafés for refuelling with a coffee or ice cream.
In Novi Vinodolski (15 minutes) you can hire motor boats and sailing dinghies to explore the coastline, rent a quad bike or scooter, play tennis and mini golf, or go parasailing over the Adriatic waves. If that’s too adventurous for the kids, hire bikes and cycle the safe seafront promenade between Klenovica and the quiet neighbouring village of Smokvica Krmpotska (half an hour’s ride), which has diving platforms leading into the sea.
