Finding a secluded spot surrounded by mature woodlands in north Wales is a fine idea in itself – but it gets even better here if you’re into your fishing. And that’s because Commonwood Leisure has 10 lakes around its 60-acre site, catering for everyone from kids and beginners to pros (who may like to wrestle with the 60-pound whopper that lives in the catfish lake…) Not fussed by fishing? This lakeside setting should be pretty splendid for you too: there’s plenty of space to relax by the water, taking in the views and lighting up a barbecue or firepit for warm evenings. Getting out and about should be straightforward as well: the site is five minutes’ drive away from the village of Holt (for pubs, cafés and an excellent farm shop) and 10 minutes from the centre of Wrexham. It’s all set up to be as straightforward as possible at this well-maintained park too. During high season only, there is a café serving tasty food and a licensed bar with background music (these two are open at select times on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). On site, there are also indoor and outdoor seating areas and plenty of areas to walk (a plus for dog owners, as the site's dog-friendly). If walking’s not such a hit with the kids, they can get stuck into rural life by spending some time with the herd of friendly pygmy goats on site.

Deze hoog beoordeelde camping wordt geprezen om ruime plaatsen, nette terreinen en vriendelijk personeel. Bezoekers genoten van de vismogelijkheden en het zwemmeer. De bar en het café kregen positieve vermeldingen, al waren de openingstijden buiten het hoogseizoen beperkt. Enige kritiek betrof het aantal en de afwerking van sanitair. Veel gasten willen terugkeren.

Ik was blij met Relaxed stay with friendly staff. Solid pitches with easy access. Fishing is awesome. Kids had fun in Madoc Lake. Great for dogs. Dedicated fishing really close to pitches.

Ik was niet blij met Not really a dislike more of an observation. Tent pitch field had lots of dog poop from irresponsible owners. Maybe poop bins might encourage the lazy ones. Showers get dirty from clay bottom pool and toilets are full of moths.

The lakes are clay lined and again unfortunately some guests let their children put clay on the toilet walls which is hard to remove, doors left open at night will attract moths

Madoc Lake staanplaats voor caravan en camper op harde ondergrond en gras zonder elektriciteit

Ik was blij met Peaceful, Beautiful site. Spacious, very well maintained pitches. Friendly staff. Bar and pizzeria, with a covered outdoor area.
The whole group enjoyed the swimming lake, paddle boards and swimming. Youngest of the group now wants to take up fishing .
We loved the goats roaming round.

Ik was niet blij met Not many showers an toilets so you need to be semi self sufficient. The showered by the lake were left in a right mess after day visits used them. But cleaned in the evening.
Could do "check-in" parking bays as when we arrived the car park was full and hard to park up, check in and drive(reverse) with a car, trailer and large van .
Benches around camp could do with repair or replacement before someone gets hurt.

Unfortunately we cannot control how other guests disrespect the site and sadly there are guests that do this, we do try to check the toilet block as often as we can. Again this goes for the benches that we supply on each pitch, it would be easier for us not to do so as we are always having to repair them due to the not being used correctly.
The car park was full as it was a bank holiday weekend, usually there is no problem, but a car, trailer and van will be hard to reverse as we are a small site and the car park reflects this when full.
There are 4 showers and 6 toilets on site which is sufficient for the amount of pitches that we have.

Ik was blij met Very nice campsite, pleasantly surprised at how quiet the campsite was. We stayed one night on the serviced pitches, it was large and had a good amount of space between other pitches! The swimming lake looked lovely too. We had a take away toasty and full English from the onsite cafe and it was brilliant! Good service and quality ingredients used. Shame the bar and pizza shut a little early for us but it looked good too!

Ik was niet blij met If we were staying longer it would have been nice to have some sort of rack/drying area by the washing up sink.
The toilet and shower could have been a bit better, in cleanliness and quantity but perfectly useable and close to pitches. Understably would be difficult to keep clean being next to the grass pitches and dry ground, sliders in the shower alleviated and issues.

Ik was blij met The pod was luxury and filled with everything you needed for an overnight stay. It’s was spotless and spacious I would definitely stay again great onsite facilities

Ik was niet blij met 2 adults and 2 kids. 2 kids slept on the fold out couch bed which they said was uncomfortable and the patio curtain wasnt black out therefore the minute the sun was out it was daylight in the kids sleeping area from 6am which impacted the stay a little the next morning.

Ik was blij met Pitches are amazing, full hook up, water, picnic bench and fire pit each. Lots of space for car parking. Amazing views and calm atmosphere. Lovely car area with little play area and live music on the Saturday we stayed. Friendly staff.

Ik was niet blij met The facilities need cleaning and restocking more often. They need updating. Showers could do with a revamp and maybe more of them.

Head to Farndon (five minutes’ drive) to launch kayaks, take your clubs along to Wrexham’s golf course (five minutes), or head to the eastern side of Snowdonia National Park for watersports and walks around Lake Bala (55 minutes). If you’re keen to explore historic places on your break, start with a wander around the huge manor and elegant gardens at the National Trust’s Erddig estate (20 minutes), then carry on to Chirk Castle (25 minutes) to see a medieval fort updated with 18th-century features. The area around Llangollen (25 minutes) has plenty to see too, including Castell Dinas Brân and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Kids after something more geared to their tastes? Try an outing to Chester Zoo (25 minutes) or a tasty trip to The Ice Cream Farm (20 minutes). Wrexham also has a swimming pool, bowling and the Xplore science museum for damp days.
