Finding a secluded spot surrounded by mature woodlands in north Wales is a fine idea in itself – but it gets even better here if you’re into your fishing. And that’s because Commonwood Leisure has 10 lakes around its 60-acre site, catering for everyone from kids and beginners to pros (who may like to wrestle with the 60-pound whopper that lives in the catfish lake…) Not fussed by fishing? This lakeside setting should be pretty splendid for you too: there’s plenty of space to relax by the water, taking in the views and lighting up a barbecue or firepit for warm evenings. Getting out and about should be straightforward as well: the site is five minutes’ drive away from the village of Holt (for pubs, cafés and an excellent farm shop) and 10 minutes from the centre of Wrexham. It’s all set up to be as straightforward as possible at this well-maintained park too. During high season only, there is a café serving tasty food and a licensed bar with background music (these two are open at select times on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). On site, there are also indoor and outdoor seating areas and plenty of areas to walk (a plus for dog owners, as the site's dog-friendly). If walking’s not such a hit with the kids, they can get stuck into rural life by spending some time with the herd of friendly pygmy goats on site.

Let op
  • Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan. Denk aan de pitbullterriër en tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro.
  • Groepsreserveringen voor 6 volwassenen of meer zijn niet toegestaan (met uitzondering van koppels en directe familieleden).
  • Het reserveren voor vrijgezellenfeesten is niet toegestaan via Pitchup.com.
  • Voor sommige faciliteiten en/of activiteiten, zoals fishing, gelden extra kosten, die bij aankomst betaald dienen te worden.
  • Minstens één lid van het gezelschap dient 21 of ouder te zijn.
  • De bar is geopend van 25/02 tot 20/12.
  • Gasten moeten hun eigen dekbedden, kussens, lakens en handdoeken meebrengen als ze in een huuraccommodatie overnachten. Neem je deze spullen niet mee, dan mag je hier niet blijven.
  • Als je vuur wilt maken, dien je de brandstof, houtblokken en kolen daarvoor ter plaatse te kopen.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Er is geen open vuur toegestaan in de gehuurde accommodaties.

Ik was blij met We had a wonderful stay. Staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We stayed by the lake, which offered a lovely view and we enjoyed being able to use the leisure lake throughout our stay. Our children loved the goats. Bar area looks lovely, we didn't visit due to weather, but would love to make use of this in future. The picnic table and fire pit on our pitch was a lovely bonus and we enjoyed a nice fire. Excellent site for use of the lakes.

Ik was niet blij met We didn't really dislike anything. There are a few things that could make the site even better though. The little park by the bar is a bit run down and broken, although I imagine this isn't as much of an issue when they have events on for bank holidays with bouncy castles etc.

If there was a decent park near the touring pitches then the site would be absolutely spot on for us. One of our children won't entertain the lake, so a park would be excellent for them. There were some stinging nettles by our pitch, that I stung myself on, but came prepared with aloe vera. I was a little worried about the children stinging themselves after that, but they were careful. Understandably these things do grow, just something to be careful of if visting with little ones. We didn't use the showers, so cannot comment on that part of the facilities, the floor could do with more cleaning but I have seen worse.

Ik was blij met beautiful surroundings, with lovely fishing lake access from your pitch and if you wanted to fish this would be included, however I didnt so did find the site a little expensive for just a solo stay.
Friendly welcome on arrival, there is a cafe but this was closed. It does have one male and female toilet and shower which was clean and the shower nice and hot, so great when no one else is there but would imagine it wouldnt be enough if the site was busy.

Ik was blij met Great relaxed holiday village atmosphere. Really well laid out site with lots of open green areas, woodland and lakes. Spacious pitches near to the swimming lake. Bar, pizza and live music was a great start to the holiday. Kids loved the play area and bouncy castle by the bar. Breakfast in the cafe was very good and catered well for gluten free and vegan options. Loved the goats and they were clearly well cared for. Friendly and welcoming staff.

very few and far between but still very noisy when they went passed.

Van de manager: Thank you for your review and nice words about our site, it is a shame you thought there was noise from the fishermens road, slightly confused as there are no fishermens roads, maybe you heard the actual road that does run past the canal lake pitches, this is not something we can control, it is a farm lane rather than a major road but tractors do go past during the day light hours and we are sorry this disturbed you.

Head to Farndon (five minutes’ drive) to launch kayaks, take your clubs along to Wrexham’s golf course (five minutes), or head to the eastern side of Snowdonia National Park for watersports and walks around Lake Bala (55 minutes). If you’re keen to explore historic places on your break, start with a wander around the huge manor and elegant gardens at the National Trust’s Erddig estate (20 minutes), then carry on to Chirk Castle (25 minutes) to see a medieval fort updated with 18th-century features. The area around Llangollen (25 minutes) has plenty to see too, including Castell Dinas Brân and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Kids after something more geared to their tastes? Try an outing to Chester Zoo (25 minutes) or a tasty trip to The Ice Cream Farm (20 minutes). Wrexham also has a swimming pool, bowling and the Xplore science museum for damp days.
