Wave hi to the gorgeous North Wales countryside, where Llyn Rhys Campsite will introduce you to outdoor pursuits in the Clwydian Range and horse-drawn canal boat rides at a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A 15-minute drive away from Llangollen and the UNESCO-listed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llyn Rhys Campsite is on a family-run farm in Llandegla with easy access off the A5104. This is an excellent place to make your acquaintance with walking, biking and other outdoor pursuits. Five minutes’ drive away from the farm is a mountain biking trail centre with mountain biking, trail running and walking trails for all abilities and a café. Very conveniently, the Offa’s Dyke Path, tracing the Wales and England border, passes through the middle of the farm too. For other days out, ask the site to help you plan more walks, as there are plenty to choose from. Really, what a spot… Llyn Rhys Campsite is at the start of the Clwydian Range, a series of hills in northeast Wales running down to Prestatyn. The highest point is the popular Moel Famau, 25 minutes’ drive away. In the opposite direction, Llangollen is in the middle of the Dee Valley, where there are more stunning landscapes. In Llandegla Forest (15 minutes’ drive), the RSPB also organises nightjar and black grouse walks during the spring. This friendly site has well-maintained facilities including showers, toilets and a washing-up room. There’s plenty of space in the almost-flat fields, including for dogs. Campfires are welcome; rent a fire basket and buy some wood to set yourself up for a cosy eve. There’s wifi, a village shop and café 15 minutes’ walk away and four towns within driving distance for other supplies.

Ik was blij met: Amazing little campsite, Christine was lovely very welcoming and the facilities were great toilets lovely and clean lovely walks around for our family and dog, there is a pub less than 5 minute walk away but i would suggest booking a table in advance as they couldn’t serve us, there is a village shop and cafe around 1 mins walk overall lovely stay in our campervan and will definitely return

Ik was blij met: Lovely site with a very warm, friendly welcome from the proprietor. This is the second time I have stayed at this site - it is great! Lovely pitches, great toilet and shower facilities as well as an area to was dishes. Great views with cycling, walking & running adventures every which way you can see. A 5 minute walk from a nice local pub and a local community cafe close by (I went there last time I stayed...lovely cakes!). Plan to stay at this site again next year, highly recommended.

Ik was blij met: Me and partner stayed with a 16yr old. Checked in quickly the owner was lovely. We had two small tents. Explained everything. Got see the sheep passing threw our field we pitched in. Lovely walks near by. Shower block , toilets blocks nice and clean. Would definitely return, and recommend.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Nothing to dislike. Massive fields, Lovley walks. Clean shower blocks and toilets fresh running water.

Ik was blij met: The field is large, quiet and has beautiful views all around. The main shower and wash block is very well-equipped and was always spotless. It is also really handy having another set of toilets in the main camping field, as it really cuts down on the nighttime trek to the bathroom! Christine is very helpful and friendly and everything is set up with clear signage, lots of space to get in, park, etc., and plenty of drinking water points.

Ik was niet zo blij met: We got caught out by a storm, but that isn't the campsite's fault. Everything in their control was great and we would definitely consider staying again.

Ik was blij met: We were welcomed by the owner cutting her grass. She literally never stops and the camp site illustrated just this! Beautiful scenery, amazingly kept grounds, clean, tidy and well marked out signs and wat marks. We have had a great few nights, very windy but this weather was freak ans unexpected. If you do visit be sure to take a drove on Horseshoe Pass and visit Llangollen.

Ik was blij met: I was made to feel very welcome by the owners and the facilities were well kept. A lovely site, convenient for Offa’s Dyke. Llandegla has a friendly community shop and cafe and regular buses to Wrexham and Ruthin.

Llangollen (15 minutes' drive) is tempting too, whether for steam train trips and horse-drawn canal boats over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct or festivals like the International Musical Eisteddfod, Llangollen Food Festival and Llangollen Fringe Festival. For urban action, Bala (35 minutes) is a historic market town with watersports activities and the Vale of Clwyd (from 15 minutes) has more historic market towns, including Ruthin, Denbigh and St Asaph. Catch a theatre show in Mold (20 minutes) or the footie in Wrexham (20 minutes), before hitting up the cities. Chester (35 minutes) has Roman walls, a cathedral, the Rows shopping street and a Roman amphitheatre, while Liverpool (an hour) has several Beatles locations to visit. At Zip World Fforest (50 minutes), you might conquer a fear or two on Europe’s highest swing and the 21 zipwires and rope bridges that make up their treetop adventure course.
