Looking for the best of both worlds with seclusion and family activities to suit a range of crowds? Carve out the way to Woodlands Campsite, a private site in the middle of the Dorset countryside. Two miles from the small village of Wool and an easy 10-minute drive from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, you’ll be excellently positioned for all things fossil hunting, coastal walks and beach days… Your new base is situated in a tranquil setting surrounded by three acres of meadows. Access to the site is via a private gated entrance that leads into a large open area of green space fringed by trees (so, there’s plenty of greenery to wake up to each day). Carefully-tended barbecues and well-behaved dogs are also welcome at this friendly and laidback site. Woodlands Campsite, which has flushing toilets and a free shower block with hot water, would be well-suited to families who are looking to maximise their time in the surrounding area at a no-nonsense rural campsite. For a range of handy village amenities, steer yourself in the direction of Wool (five minutes' drive). There’s a shop for picking up supplies, or you could catch a train down to Bournemouth or Weymouth from the station or taste test the local ales at the pub.

Ik was blij met Gorgeous, peaceful location, with lovely (flat) pitches and appropriate facilities. Polite and friendly reception upon arrival and likewise from the owner on the first morning. Perfect location for those who like the outdoors, with easy and plentiful access to footpaths, tracks and restricted byways etc, as well as quiet country lanes. Toilets/showers kept clean/tidy and well-stocked.

Ik was niet blij met Nothing, loved the place.

Ik was blij met Dog friendly, Good location with durdle door and lulworth cove around 10-15 mins drive away, large pitch, friendly staff. Quiet location with minimal traffic noise. Not far from local shops and cafes. Budget friendly

Ik was niet blij met Only 2 toilets which wasn't an issue for us as only us and one other couple there at the time. Can see it being an issue during busier periods.
One of toilet doors is really hard to lock, you have to lift handle all the way up to lock it but it's extremely stiff.

Only one shower (out of possible 2) was working and door doesn't lock properly (little hook and eye on inside of door)

Not sure if the cottages are rented out but occupants were quite noisy on our last night, although this did stop by 10.30

Ik was blij met The space is lovely and the people who owned it where super helpful and the animals were very enjoyable to see.

Ik was niet blij met There were only 2 toilets to quite a bit campsite. Only 1 if the shower was being used. This made it rather frustrating as you would offten have to wait a while when the campsite got busy.

Ik was blij met Onsite animals, friendly welcome team on arrival to take remaining payment and show us the facilities.

Ik was niet blij met Only two toilets - this isn’t enough for the number of pitches available and at times we had to wait. They are only cleaned twice a day. Needs more toilets.

Ik was blij met Absolutely wonderful site. Smaller site made it a nice experience. Staff helpful and friendly. Convenient location and short drives to places to visit in local area. The tent pitches are a good size too, spacious and easy to park. Able to come and go as you please, quiet hour after 10pm which was great. Wonderful hosts and definitely a camping pitch we would love to come back to again. Animals can be seen on the site and benches nearby too. Was great to watch the goats and chickens.

Good facilities right next to pitches so we don’t have to walk far to shower, use bathroom or wash up. We enjoyed how environmentally conscious and sustainable the pitch was too.

What Jurassic coast wonders might you want to indulge in from Woodlands Campsite? Lulworth Cove (10 minutes’ drive) is a wise place to start, especially if you’re impartial to coasteering, swimming or hiking to caves, blow holes and other coves. Ticking off Durdle Door (10 minutes) is a big one too – just don’t forget to snap a selfie in front of the arches before heading for the sand. If you prefer to start with a little history, Lulworth Castle (10 minutes) has a grand look, and the grounds make a rather excellent picnic setting. There are hilltop ruins at Corfe Castle (15 minutes) and war tanks at The Tank Museum (10 minutes), or to pretend you're travelling back in the old days, there are steam train rides departing from Harman's Cross Station (15 minutes). Visiting a Dorset ghost village could also form a part of your plan - Tyneham (20 minutes) was left to its own devices in the war in 1943, and parts have been left untouched since. You may wish to return to the coast for a snorkelling session over the corals at Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes). There's plenty of plant life to admire at the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (40 minutes) too. If you'd rather watch monkeys in action, head to Monkey World (10 minutes).
