You’re more likely to spot a tractor on the roads around here than a car, say the owners of The Daggles – and that tells you a lot about the splendid rural setting of this friendly Dorset family site. The Daggles is part of a working dairy farm surrounded by agricultural land, in a peaceful and secluded spot next to mature woodland that makes a great space for kids to run about and play games (or perhaps set up a teddy bears’ picnic?) Beyond the woods is the lovely walking territory of the Blackmore Vale. The setup here is simple but well thought out: custom-built facilities include two flushing toilets and two hot gas-powered showers, located at one end of the site and open 24 hours a day with good-quality solar lighting. Planning a digital detox? This could be the place – it’s off grid so there’s no wifi and no power points for charging your gadgets (although there is phone signal if you really need it…) Pitches are suitably spacious too, and each one has a designated campfire area. Logs and charcoal are available to buy on site and there’s drinking water available from a standpipe, plus a cold-water washing-up area. The whole place is kept quiet and safe by not allowing cars on pitches (don’t worry, you’ll have wheelbarrows to cart your kit around). Rural this site may be but it’s not far from essential amenities – Sherborne is about a 10-minute drive away for independent shops (including a baker and butcher) and supermarkets (who can also deliver to the site if you book ahead).

Ik was blij met: Large site with only 6 pitches so whilst we were there when it was "full" the site was still peaceful and quiet. Loads of space around pitches, facilities were good, kids enjoyed looking around the forest while walking the loop. Firepit was great and logs available to buy if you need. Was great to sit next to the fire and enjoy the spectacular view of the stars. Location was perfect for trips to Sherborne and around Dorset. Jess was lovely and a great host. All in all, top notch

Ik was blij met: From start to finish everything was fabulous! The location was perfect, not noisy at all, lovely walks all around! The site was extremely clean and tidy, showers and toilets were lovely too! Nice little washing up section also! The owner was more than helpful with bringing us logs when needed. Highly recommend ✨

Ik was blij met: Absolutely loved it. Peace and quiet. Brilliant facilities, well maintained. Easy walk from the car, even easier with a wheelbarrow. Really spacious. Wondering surroundings. And a decent phone signal if that’s what you’re after.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Only downside was that people didn’t put the wheelbarrows back and kept them on their pitch - not helpful when trying to pack up - maybe a note to be added on the blackboard? But this is me being super picky as we really couldn’t fault it at all. 100% recommend.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

There’s a lot of walking and cycling to be done around here, and much of it is easily accessible as the farm links up to local footpaths. If you need ideas, have a chat with the team on site – they can point you towards a gentle child-friendly amble to a nearby stream or a more challenging outing onto the Dorset Downs. One attraction not to be missed nearby is the huge Cerne Giant (10 minutes’ drive) carved into the hillside near Cerne Abbas. Also about 10 minutes’ drive away is the lovely town of Sherborne, home to two castles and a stunning abbey. You’ll have to travel a little further to get to the Jurassic Coast, but the journey is worth it to explore one of the country’s finest stretches of coastline. Weymouth’s beach, Sea Life Centre and fish and chip shops make it a top pick for a family day out – it’s about a 40-minute drive. West Bay (40 minutes), Lulworth Cove (50 minutes) and Studland (an hour) are also candidates for a day trip.
