What will you find when you arrive for a stay at Wattlehurst Farm? Well, for starters this West Sussex farm site has not one but two lakes on site (known as the ‘big lake’ and ‘small lake’), providing a home for wildlife and some pretty views – especially at sunset, when the lovely colours shimmer across the water. Other things to expect from a stay here include simple facilities in the form of a toilet block and washing-up area – but no hot water, showers, wifi or electrical connections. It’s a family-friendly place that also welcomes dogs, and you’ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue for your outdoor cooking. And here’s something you probably didn’t expect – this site has its own Western town called ‘Deadwood’, which is run by a local re-enactment group and open every other week. The farm is just outside the village of Kingsfold, which has a good pub that you can reach in about 10 minutes along a public footpath for a meal and some drinks. Just outside the pub is a bus stop for services to nearby Horsham and Dorking (both handy places for shopping and about 10-15 minutes’ drive away). If you’re a light sleeper it’s worth noting the site is under the Gatwick flight path – something that’s a bonus if you like to lie back on your pitch and watch planes overhead.

Deze camping wordt zeer gewaardeerd om zijn prachtige, rustige ligging aan de meren, schone faciliteiten en ruime, goed gescheiden plaatsen. Gasten prijzen de vriendelijke eigenaren, met speciale lof voor Sarah. Deadwood Wild West Town is een populaire attractie. Geluid van vliegtuigen wordt genoemd, maar de meesten vonden het beheersbaar. Het ontbreken van douches en de aanwezigheid van verkeersdrempels zijn kleine minpunten.

Ik was blij met We loved Wattlhurst farm, we were pitched by the small lake and it was so quiet and peaceful, the view of the lake was beautiful. Sarah (I think that’s the owners name) was a lovely owner, really kind and helpful! Toilet facilities were good and the walk nearby was great! We will definitely be coming back!

Ik was niet blij met On the other lake there was some naked children round there and I think would make some people feel uncomfortable.

Ik was blij met My first trip to this site and my first solo trip. I absolutely loved it. The pitches are well spaced out and are all on the side of the lake, all have a firepit and a wooden bench table. Toilets are immaculate, despot there only being 2 cubicles, however, as there are only 11 pitches and this site, that’s enough.
I did one night on my own, and was literally the only person there, so it felt like wild camping, with the bonus of a toilet. Nights 2 & 3 were with my niece and nephews, and they also had a great time running about the field and playing with other kids. It was the perfect weekend.

Ik was niet blij met There are no showers, but I’m fortunate to live close enough, that when I picked up my niece and nephews, I could freshen up. However, a bowl of water heated with my kettle and soap/flannel was also fine, so it’s not really a drawback for me.

Ik was blij met The campsite was lovely and peaceful. The sites were spaced out nicely so felt like we had our own space. Beautiful lakes, so calming hearing the birds in the morning.
Facilities were very clean and had washing up areas too.

Ik was niet blij met Not the campsites fault at all but there were loud planes flying into gatwick every 20 mins or so until 11:30/12pm!

The facilities were clean and easy to access.
The people at the site were friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area and the Deadwood Wild West Town was brilliant.
I would visit again!

Ik was blij met Great communication on the day, clear and spacious pitches, firepit ready to go, wonderful view, really clean facilities, loved the simplicity of the site, fun wild west village to explore. Kids enjoyed the flights overhead tracking what was coming and going!

Ik was niet blij met Going home! What a lovely place, will be back.

Ik was blij met If I could give Sarah more than 10 stars I would.
From helping me with the booking to coming to over to introduce herself when we arrived to see if we needed anything she was amazing.
Me my husband and kids have the best weekend as a family then we have had in a long time, we are already checking the calendar to see when we can go back.

The site was spotless the toilets were clean the pitches were lovely size you didn't feel like you were all on top of each other.

Ik was blij met Everything was just perfect. Very clean toilets. Lovely site, great size pitch, great spot for plane watching and fishing. We enjoyed every minute and will definitely be back soon.

Ik was niet blij met No fault to the site but shooting noises at the cowboy meet were scaring our dog so maybe something to have in mind if you have a nervous dog.

Staying at Wattlehurst Farm you’ll be just outside the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so there are plenty of places around to get out for a walk – popular spots like Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Tillingbourne waterfall are all about 20 minutes’ drive away. If you like your views more landscaped, make a trip to the National Trust gardens at Nymans (also 20 minutes’ drive) or Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (25 minutes). With Gatwick Airport not far off, this is a fine area for flight enthusiasts – and you can get up close to various planes at Gatwick Aviation Museum (20 minutes) and Wings Aviation Museum (25 minutes). Flying of a different kind is on display at Huxley’s Birds of Prey Centre and Gardens (15 minutes). For more involved day trips, you can get to the seaside at Brighton in about 50 minutes, or head to Holmwood station (10 minutes) for the hour-long train ride to London. Closer to home, outings might include Go Ape Crawley, Fishers Farm Park or a more grownup trip to Bolney Wine Estate (all 25 minutes away).
