Guests from all over the UK, Europe and the US have been to Morelands Copse Camping – with many leaving rave reviews calling the place ‘magical’ or ‘pure heaven’. Several have even ended up staying for longer than they planned, or quickly returning… So what is it about this place that inspires such enthusiasm? Well, the location’s a pretty good start – it has four acres of secluded and private Hampshire countryside to its name, with views over Hensting Valley and the South Downs National Park. Stunning sunsets are also common. There’s a real emphasis on preserving natural habitats here – the grounds are made up of an open field next to wildflower meadows and ancient woodlands, and nearly a kilometre of native hedgerows have been planted to create new wildlife habitats too. All of this provides an ever-changing backdrop of colour throughout the season, but one constant is the lack of light pollution that allows for some stunning stargazing on clear nights. The site is off grid and low impact, but it does have some essential facilities including portable toilets, a hot shower and an additional (and rather fun) Wrigley tin shower with a bucket on a pulley for that real wild camping vibe. There’s also an honesty shop for gas and a few other bits and bobs – other supplies can be picked up in either Eastleigh or Winchester, both of which are about 15 minutes’ drive away. A number of activities are available on site, including bushcraft (willow weaving, learning to build a den and foraging) and arts and crafts using the supplies and materials provided in the crafts den. Alternatively, you might like to take a walk to one of the local pubs for a meal and a couple of drinks – there are two lovely options within 20 minutes’ stroll. The closest bus stop is only 15 minutes' walk away too. For a spa day, head to the hotel in Marwell, which is five minutes' walk away.

  • Minderjarigen (18-) dienen te worden vergezeld door een ouder en/of officiële voogd.
  • Op deze camping zijn hondenrassen/kruisingen die in de 'lijst met hoog-risico honden op agressief gedrag' zijn opgenomen, niet toegestaan (zoals de pitbullterriër, tosa, Argentijnse dog en fila brasileiro). Ook de volgende rassen zijn niet welkom: de staffordshire-bulterriër, Amerikaanse staffordshireterriër, rottweiler en mastiff.
  • Voor sommige faciliteiten en/of activiteiten, zoals Willow weaving, gelden extra kosten, die bij aankomst betaald dienen te worden.
  • Auto's/motoren zijn niet toegestaan op de staplaats/bij de accommodatie. Deze moeten worden geparkeerd op de daarvoor bestemde plekken.
  • Als je vuur wilt maken, dien je de brandstof, houtblokken en kolen daarvoor ter plaatse te kopen.
  • Het wordt gasten geadviseerd om een zaklantaarn van goede kwaliteit mee te nemen, omdat delen van het terrein onverlicht zijn.
  • Er is geen open vuur toegestaan in de gehuurde accommodaties.
  • Zwemmen in het meer is niet toegestaan.

Ik was blij met: Our second time staying here, great new addition of a hot shower and new site manager was there to greet us on arrival. Will definitely be back.

Ik was blij met: Fire pits, Honesty shop, Goats in next field.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Maybe an idea to collect the grass when cutting. Shepherd huts left vacant and listed unavailable online. Campsite on hill so limited decent pitches for tents.

Ik was blij met: The site is beautiful, so quiet and secluded and surrounded by wildlife. Facilities were very good, our girls particularly enjoyed the arts and crafts provided and meeting the horses nearby. Owner was very present, friendly and helpful. Loved being able to camp under the trees in the woods, felt like a real adventure! We will definitely be back and have reccomended you to our friends.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Unfortunately there was a group of young lads pitched next to us who played loud music for most of the afternoon and evening. We thought groups of this nature were not permitted at the site.

Ik was blij met: My daughter (aged 10) and I, really enjoyed the layout of the camp. Pitches were good distances apart and despite all woodland pitches taken, all were respectful throughout the night. Facilities were brilliant. In working order and clean. The honesty shop was very helpful, too. Will definitely frequent this site.

Ik was niet zo blij met: Signage could be better en route and had no clue what to do on arrival but people were helpful. Later saw someone in charge so no real issues.

Saharatent

Ik was blij met: I almost don’t want to say how lovely it was because I want to go back and have it to myself. We stayed in the bell tent and the camp beds made it really comfy. There was a fire pit just for us. Tea and coffee stuff to help yourself to if you forget to bring them. Pots and pans etc. Really well thought out. I’d class it as “not so wild” camping.

Ik was niet zo blij met: We were near the toilet so could hear the door banging/squeaking shut lots in the run up to bedtime. The sink could have done with a drain.

Ik was blij met: We liked the remoteness of the woodland. The communal sitting room was quite well equipped, but could do with a couple sofa even recycled ones. Overall 9/10. Loos need larger bins for toilet rolls. Very hospitable, helpful and friendly leaseholder. Will definitely return.

Ik was blij met: Being off grid for 24 hours. Was able to switch off and be surrounded by green. A new shower and toilet facility has been added. Plenty of space.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

There’s a lot of fun to be had simply knocking about on site – the site is fenced so kids can play and dogs can sniff about safely. That said, this is also a great area for outings, and one of the best is very close by: the excellent Marwell Zoo, which you can reach with a 15-minute walk or five-minute drive for a day among the giraffes, tigers and hippos. This location on the edge of the South Downs National Park also clearly lends itself to walks, bike rides and other outdoor activities – and there’s more of all that in the nearby New Forest National Park (20 minutes’ drive) too. For a complete change of scenery, you might instead fancy city strolls in either historic Winchester (15 minutes) or down in Southampton (25 minutes), where both Solent Sky and SeaCity Museum are handy rainy-day options.
