Whitehough Outdoor Centre

Ik was blij met We spent a wonderfully peaceful Friday-to-Sunday weekend camping break at Whitehough Outdoor Centre The campsite is remote, wonderfully quiet, and relaxed, offering free choice of where to pitch your tent. While much of the field is sloped, there are flatter areas along the top perimeter and down at the bottom near the facilities. We opted for a scenic spot at the top under the trees, though do bear in mind this area attracted quite a few flies—pitching down near the bottom might be a better choice if you want to avoid them!

With only three other tents on-site, the atmosphere was tranquil. Everyone strictly observed the quiet time between 10 pm and 8 am, meaning absolute peace with zero noise or light pollution to interrupt the starry nights. There was a tree swing and football nets for children, but as we were clearly a middle aged couple, the other campers were exceptionally considerate, checking in to ensure their kids weren't disturbing us and asking permission before letting their dog off the lead.

Central to the field is a handy covered concrete area equipped with a couple of picnic tables and a firepit. The toilets and showers were kept very clean, and there is a dedicated washing-up area (though note that there is no hot water available) and plenty of bins. The site manager was camping on-site all weekend and was wonderfully friendly and helpful throughout.

The location is a fantastic base for exploring the local area. It's ideally placed for visiting Barley to walk up Pendle Hill and explore the Sculpture Trail, with plenty of other great walks right on your doorstep. While there are no shops within walking distance, Barrowford is a short drive away with a Booths supermarket, heritage centre, memorial park, and lovely walks, while Burnley is just six miles away for larger supermarkets.

Highly recommended for nature lovers and walkers seeking peace and quiet and we will definitely be back.

Ik was niet blij met A bit confusing on arrival where to go as the pin drop takes you to the centre car park rather than the camping field car park and there was no one in reception, however, the site manager was on the field to direct us. We had received an email at 11.11am with information pack and map of the centre, but as we arrived about 12pm we didn't see this until after we'd set up so it would have been better to have received this the day before.

Also not being able to park by the tent (we did know this when booking but thought we'd be able to drive onto the camping field to drop kit off and then park in the car park) however wheelbarrows were provided to carry everything.

Ik was blij met Really liked how clean the pitch was and fact there were facilities such as toilets and showers on site. Toilets were really clean! There was only one other group camping on the field when we were and it was really peaceful. My first time camping so was really impressed.

Ik was niet blij met Was a bit hilly so have to find a flatter spot. Despite instructions being sent was still a bit unclear where the field was, would possibly help with signposting once in carpark which way to go

There was an activity area but signs were installed and No one could access them.

That was the only disappointment.

Ik was blij met Large open field. Chose your own tent spot. Camp fires allowed, dogs allowed.Great price @£20 for up to 4 and a dog per night.

Great riverside walk to 2 nice pubs in Barley.
Clean toilet and shower.

Ik was niet blij met £20 for ONE PERSON .I would have liked to see a slight reduction at £15.

Great communal fireplace with Washing drum and a picnic bench.

We loved our 4 day stay in July.
Lovely walking down to Barley carpark from here. Fantastic spot and loads of nature. We heard owls every night.

Ik was blij met Stayed with 2 children under 8 and they loved the place. Facilities were as clean as campers left them (site unmanned at weekend)
We came for a night and ended up staying 3 more. Had deer running around the site which was lovely
When we arrived there was only 1 shower and toilet which wasn’t much of a problem as there was only 2 parties staying but when site manager got in on the Monday he opened up more toilets and showers which was great as a few more parties had turned up. Site manager was nice and friendly
Plenty of places to walk and a few trees for the kids to climb
Will be staying again in future

Ik was niet blij met The pitches are slightly sloped. Be aware of pitching up near the oak trees as we got swarmed by flies and had to move but apart from that no complaints
