If you’re after a spectacular wild camping spot to lay down your head, you’ll certainly find it at Wasdale Lakeside Campsite. Set on a working Lakeland farm, this Cumbria pop-up site is big on views, looking up Wasdale to Yewbarrow, and right down to the shores of Wastwater. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join your Lakeland jaunt, but must be kept on a lead at all times as there are always sheep about. You’ll all get lots of exercise, as there are numerous walks into the scenic Wasdale Valley from the camping field. Talking of the camping field, pitch numbers are limited so your wild camping experience can stay a private, peaceful one. Simple amenities run to portable toilets, on-site water in a container, cold running water a short walk from the pitches, recycling and washing lines for drying clothes and wetsuits. Small barbecues are allowed, but please place them on the slates provided. Pick up any vital supplies in Eskdale Stores (15 minutes’ drive), or order takeaways from the Lion and Lamb pub in Gosforth (they’ll deliver to your tent). If you fancy a change of scenery, hotfoot it down to the pubs in Nether Wasdale (10 minutes or half an hour’s walk). Please note there are no showers and no electrical hook-up points at this campsite. As this is a remote area, there is limited phone signal and data coverage; some networks have better coverage than others.

Deze camping biedt een prachtige, afgelegen locatie met een fantastisch uitzicht en gemakkelijke toegang tot Wastwater voor watersport en zwemmen. Bezoekers waarderen de ruime, rustige plekken, de vredige sfeer en de mogelijkheden om te wandelen en van de natuur te genieten. Het personeel wordt consequent omschreven als vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Hoewel de faciliteiten basic zijn, waaronder Dixi's, worden ze over het algemeen als schoon en goed onderhouden beschouwd. Sommige gasten merkten de landelijke toegangsweg en de af en toe aanwezige midgets op.

Ik was blij met Great location and plenty of space.

Ik was niet blij met Nothing. We knew it would be basic but everything we expected was there and the toilets were clean.

Ik was blij met Amazing setting, few minutes walk to the magical Wastwater. Perfect for leaving the car and hiking, swimming sup all on the doorstep. David was fantastic, helpful, friendly . Basic site but portaloos were very clean. 2 large fields so plenty of space , choose where you want to pitch. Some slopiing areas but plenty of flat ground. I loved this place the location was special.

Ik was niet blij met nothing.
Well the drive up to the camp is a farm track, but this is advised on the site so no surprises so not really a dislike. i had no phone internet signal but think this dependent on your network. Not a problem as can live without it.

Ik was blij met Absolutely loved this site, great open area, pitch where you like, fantastic views and easy access to Wastwater.

Ik was niet blij met Inconsiderate individuals who thought it acceptable to urinate and vomit on the public footpath between camping fields even though portaloos were provided that were clean and easily accessible. You always get one!

Ik was blij met We had a lovely stay here. It’s off the beaten track and in the most beautiful setting. The campsite is very clean and tidy and the portaloos are cleaned every day. David the owner is very friendly and comes round on his quad to say hello and check if you need anything. Immediately outside the camp is a woodland walk, and a 3 minute walk to the edge of the lake. Stunning views and very peaceful. There’s a lively cafe and farm shop just outside the farm and pubs are a short drive away or can be walked too. Highly recommend if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of life for a few days.

Ik was blij met Beautiful, clean field in a remote area. locating the campsite was a breeze due to the signs pointing in correct direction. the forest on site is gorgeous and full of life. it’s also only a 5-10 min walk to wastwater. definitely recommend.

Ik was blij met Beautiful camp site the views around the area are stunning. Camp site is clean and tidy owners where very helpful in giving routes to walk on we walked from hear up to scarfell pike took about 7 hours at a steady pace. All in all great price and place would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Ik was niet blij met Nothing to dislike great camp.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Just five minutes’ stroll from the camping field, Wastwater is a hub for wild swimmers, scuba divers, paddleboarders and kayakers – you can hire gear from the rental shop 10 minutes’ drive away. The lake is also fertile ground for anglers, who can fish for Arctic char, trout and salmon (in season). Hardened hikers have access to ventures up Scafell Pike (three hours) from the site. If you’re thinking of less strenuous days out, play a round at Eskdale Golf Course (25 minutes), or take the weight off your feet completely with a train tour of the West Lakes fell and mountain scenery on Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, locally known as ‘La’al Ratty’ (15 minutes). Local kid-friendly options include trotting through the fells with alpacas at Wastwater Alpaca Trekking (25 minutes), or a gentle scramble up Wasdale (an hour and a half’s walk from the site) to the Fairy Pools. The sand-and-shingle beaches at Seascale (25 minutes) and Ravenglass (20 minutes) are both dog-friendly, with lots of rook pools for splashing around in.
